But I should also say that if you're relying on armor when dealing with zombies, you're already doing several things wrong at the same time.
I haven't played much of the b42 yet, so I haven't been able to familiarize myself with the armor very well. I've only found one pair of knee pads so far, and they don't show much of a change in protection. Not that I've noticed, since I don't know much about this mechanic. But I believe that increasing this protection helps a lot in those moments of carelessness and desperation, when, when attacked, you don't get hurt LOL
Thanks for the help
-Read the Tailoring skill books to increase your XP multiplier
-Rip up all zombie clothing you can find for ripped sheets (keep all leather strips you can get)
-Use those ripped sheets + the needle + thread to patch up any random piece of clothing with cloth padding (right click a clothing item -> Inspect) to increase your Tailoring and the chance of getting more thread when ripping up clothes
-Once you get to max Tailoring, use leather strips as patches to give you a nice protection bonus on all clothing
With the new "ui overhaul" for clothing, and without the numbers given, it got a bit weirder to determine whether an armour is worth having or not. Especially with the added discomfort thingie. (Of which yet we dont know what it does, my guess it increases sadness)
Anyway the main issue with the new ui for clothing is, that most folks will likely not notice
the important bits on the bottom. The reduction to fighting and movement speed.
Especially the latter is very important. As if that drops to a certain level you will not be able to walk faster than certain zombies.
Fighting speed reduction is a silent killer. Most of the time players will not even notice, that it was reduced it is by such miniscule amounts. Like you used to do 100 attacks within a set amount of time with a certain weapon now you do only 97. Usually this should not cause an issue, but it already increases the chance that the player might get hit.
And then either protection stops it or not. Because zombies can also crit. And critting through a 100% protection might still leave you with a scratch or a bite:)
So protection early game is a very serious and silent killer. As Rainmaker said, if you do not invest in tailoring, it will have more maluses than boni.
But ya also know me. I ain't relying on no armor. I'm relying on either 12 gauge or 5.56x45mm :D
If you press "inspect" it shows which body areas it will cover.
For starters, a police jacket, later military.
High risk areas: neck, arms, head, body.
This is the way. You should NEVER be standing still if a zombie is within grabbing distance. Movement is your only reliable tool for defense. If there are too many zombies, turn around and walk away until there aren't. Never forget that you literally walk faster than them.
That said, you can provide yourself a fair amount of scratch protection without affecting your mobility if you spawn in with denim shirt+jeans and acquire a pair of elbow+knee pads looted from shed/garage areas, as well as a pair of work boots easily found on zombies. But, again, this scratch protection should NEVER be relied on against zombie attacks. It's there to protect you from the elements, and enable you to get past trees and bushes without getting scratched. And if a zombie does happen to get a lucky hit, it gives you a slightly higher chance of getting away with just a hole in your clothes instead of a hole in your skin, but think of that as a last resort.
Debug lol. I don't actually wear armor in my playthroughs.
