The quest for an axe/sledgehammer

I hit almost every shed in West Point, the hardware store, the factory, every mini mart, and drove down every road besides those going far out of town looking for an axe/woodaxe and a sledgehammer. Tried to get into storage sheds and garages without windows, but haven't found the sledge, and kind of hesitant to use propane, since I need that for welding. Finally found a wood axe in the dumpster behind Giga Mart. But it's on a shred of life. Been kind of blessed run otherwise, but this is going to be the most nerve-wracking repair ever. If I fail the repair, it's toast. I've got three in maintenance. I'm scared, boys.

Edit: I'm actually just out of luck eh, forgot you can't repair damage axe heads. Is there any way to salvage it?

You can also dissasemble some doors with the screwdriver and hammer. Should be able to get into more sheds that way.

I find it funny that none of the unattached garages have side doors; nor have I seen any vehicles actually parked in any of the garages.

The only time I have ever actually found a sledge was with the little road event where there's a pickup truck surrounded by a few zombies in hardhats. There's a chance for the hammer to be on the ground near the manhole. It's not a great thing as it relies strictly on very heavy RNG (the event actually appearing AND a sledge being there instead of something else), but it's where i've seen them.

You just need to knap flint and level 1 maintenance to make stone axe. I don't remember needing any specific recipe just to make stone axes. And since you can get 5-7 flints from a single mineral deposit, that's 5-7 stone axes you can use to do everything you want an axe to do.

is that not the medieval axe? looks like an old viking war axe.

only ones I have found are Hatchets ( < can always find them in bins / blue dumpsters)and Fire axes. Which i normally find off the fire men. I still need to loot more of Mcoys lumber yard on this run to find more.

So just in case anyone else is looking around for this info, it does seem like you need a recipe to knap stone axe heads, as well as level three knapping. Which is a bit of a buzzkill after leveling knapping.
