Project Zomboid

base protection : pvp
Hey guys

Sadly a major portion of favourite PvE servers are slowly transitioning to full PVP, most of the guides around Steam or Youtube are focused on pve, like having a Zombie protection safehouse, but not against players, which are far more dangerous.

While Zombies will just kill you and break some of your stuff. Players if they find your SafeHouse will kill you and steal your stuff (if not just completely burn down your safehouse)

I believe that the best defence against players is having ordinary houses, make it look like it's nothing more than a random house, or go far from the cities, in the woods. But what can I do if a hardcore player stalk me to find my house ? I saw a video about secret stashes that could be hidden in the floor, can I do something like that ? Or perhaps have a part of my loot in a random bag in the forest ?

There's nothing you can do other than claim a safehouse. But then, people will just start a fire and lure zombies to your base and have it burnt to the ground. I guess you could leave a duffel bag under a bush in the middle of nowhere. That might be safe.

Find a Sledge hammer and make a few stairs upward into the sky in the middle of nowhere woods and build a floating base, people would be hard pressed to find something so remote probably want at least 2 ropes to your base if it's still close to a road that a zombie could spawn and pull down while you are away.

Could also find a spot in the river, build single wood platform WAY out and cover platforms with sand (hard to spot right away) could eventually be found if someone skims the whole river for a base though.

Booby Trap a room you never plan to open again that will just mangle whoever opens it if you have the electrical skill.

If you are allowed to have a 2nd character on the server I'd personally suggest the skyhouse/bridge method as you'd have the 2nd character lead down the rope for you from your base that is like 6+ stories up, all you need to do is collect all the nails you can.
And for fun place death traps all over if someone "Somehow" finds your base at least it will kill them, like a door that leads to a room but the first floor is missing so they fall etc.

Boobytrap? How? I didn't know you could set traps... I thought walls was the only real reprieve we got?

You have to pick the engineer profession for that iirc. It allows you to craft pipe and firebombs and trigger them via motion sensors.

Ah, lame. I wish nothing was profession locked. Should always be a way to acquire things :(

I think there are magazines that teach you some blueprints, I think i was able to create bombs as a Firefighter because I have read some books.

Boobytraping our Safehouses sounds pretty neat actually, like creating fake corridors leading to fake rooms that has traps in them, but that would demand a lot of knowledge farming. It could be worth tho.

Right now, as I am living in the woods, I always take some duffel bags from my trips back home, shove some spare guns, cloths, and meds in them and spread them around in the forest, and marked on my map. So if my safehouse get raided, I'm not losing everything. At first I was not very keen to do it because there is a chance it will duplicate my stuff if I retrieve them from the bag, but eh, whatever really. It's quite stupid to enforce pvp when glitches allow some players to gain an unfair advantage.

Some hardcore pvp players sits on second floors balcony and just kill the people on the first floor because they can't render what's happening on the second floor.

I don't get that. You have a succesful PVE server, let's ruin it by having the griefers come over.

Do the bags stay forever or will they go away if you don't visit the cell often enough?

That's really... really dumb. They should make a key that lets you render the floors like Kenshi does (great game).

Do you know what books I should get and what items/where should I look in order to get the materials in order to do so ? I mostly play as Firefighter so I do not have the Engineer knowledge

I don't remember what magazines but should check every book shelf in every house (yeah) think every town has a school library or book store, and you will almost uncommonly find recipe magazines in trashcans.

Wiki says for motion sensor get Electricity 2 or Electronics magazine vol.3 and can make a motion pipe bomb or motion flame trap for annihilating intruders.

Can put it right in front of a fake rope ladder window they try to climb in through.

lmao the fake rope sound genius really

I'll continue looking for mags, I'm mostly worried about the "house alarm" item, I haven't found any so far

hm, after getting curb stomped in "Rust" I learned that the only way to deal with them is to destroy their bases, if they have a base, and if they do, it means they are a team, you need a team or your squat. It's the same in "Eve." PvP means no base. It means tiny little hordes here and there, for the solo guy. They can find even the most remote little hut because thats what they do, they look for it, thats what is fun for a pvp player. You are spending all day hording up things while he spends all day looking for your horde. Don't play pvp if this is not your thing.

The issue is that it's the 3rd pve server I'm going trough, and they decided to enable pvp or what they call "no restriction". I live in the Pacific so there are not a lot of choices for multiplayer servers with an okay ping for me. I'm just waiting for the NPCs badly at this point
