Doesn't matter what the foraging level is
I think when I first started foraging though, that everything was 'unknown berries' but now at lv.3 they are identified before I pick them up ('winter berries'). But then when I pick them up, they're 'unknown' again? Just seems confusing.
But when they were on the ground (in the bush) before I picked them, when I right clicked on the bush it said 'winter berries.'

"Poison
Like Blueberries, Blackberries, and the fellow seasonal Beauty Berry, all Winter Berries are non-poisonous by default. The only way a player may become sickened when eating them is if they are rotten or added to an already poisonous or spoiled dish."
So that you can't use godly knowledge to survive and eat the correct berry or shrooms by memory. You can already do that with the map. go to some place you know will be empty because of previous games
Well i am just eating accordingly to the wiki and it clearly states that black-, blue., winter-, and beauty berries are safe to eat and havent got sick yet. In theory i could be the luckiest player alive but doubth it :-) And thats with no herbalist mag...

Since the foraging overhaul i have not foraged berries, but afaik berries have different shape and colour. Afaik there are(or used to be ) at least 6 different types, and usually one type is poisonous. Used to be random which one will be the poisonous one:) Now perhaps it is not so.
I had accidentally eaten one of said winter berries, hence my seeking info (it didn't poison me). Seems like I'm just better off continuing to use them for compost until I find the magazine.
