March Ridge a Death Trap?
Not often gone to march ridge, but i am thinking about heading over there.

See i am running out of ammo, and i have zombies migrating out of rosewood and towards the highway and into the farms and within a few months i imagine towards my base.

The situation is serious. As it restricts my gas, i already dried up a lot of gas across the farmlands and it was thin. And the population is something like that of Insane settings.

So i have to make a mission somewhere, i took a spin to mul to scope out the police station and it was hot as hell. We are nearly 2 months into the game, and zombie population is hot as hell in most area's.

I didn't hit jamieton yet or the northern gun shop because i want to preserve those loots for a later date.

So i wondering ask the question. since i have an Annotated Map, pointing to a house in march ridge, and referencing the community center where a corpse is also to be found. And i need to stack up gas, this is single player so i can get tired throughout the day may need to sleep.
Since i never live march ridge. Or rarely visit, i know that it is fenced off. I drove past the entrancement and there wasn't many zomboids. And i was meaning to check out the result of that annotated map, which is 1 of 3. this one indicated no zombies though i had one for LV indicated location of Moms Grave, and another indicated location of the Drugs, and Do not Go here, they are here, with 3 zombies drawn onto the map.

But the march ridge map is the tamest one, seems to point me to a locked down house with likely to be weapons.

But since i never go, I ask

Is it normally a complete death trap?

Is it best to enter the town on foot? Since i concern about my vehicles, or being wedged in there by crowds of zombies.

I set up a base there once. And it has a big amount of zombies for the size of the town. Almost equal to West Point. I think it's mostly because there's nothing but houses there, and therefore triggers a lot of house events like the watch party or bathroom party and what have you.

Walking on foot might be a good idea if you know what you are doing. You can basically lure most of the zombies out to the field south of the map, particularly on the southeast side where you can immediately climb a fence and run all the way back north.

If you want to set up some kind of temporary base there, go the the southeast side of the town as well where you'll find 3 rows of townhouses with tall wooden fence on the west side. You can wall off the opening on the east side of that area, then wall off the openings between the northern row of houses to make a big secured area. This place is also close to the entrance of the town so you can almost immediately haul your loot out once you are done with the place.

This is the place I'm talking about: https://map.projectzomboid.com/#10471x12748x1251

About half of the stuff could be omitted as it has no relevance to the question, and is boring to read as hell.(sorry:P)

I regularly visited march ridge on 6 months later settings.
It is quite bad. It is almost as bad as Lville. (Sometimes even worse.)
Do not approach by car, as you will likely not be able reach the gas station. Even if you are, you will not be able to press forward most likely, with the sheer amount of zeds that will come. March ridge has a lot of houses, if an alarm goes off anywhere, or any kind of big noise, about at least 3000 zombies will head towards you. (But can be as high as 5K or more.)
To reach the community center you will need a lot of time to get there.
On apocalypse diffie it is possible to drive in with a car, though risky, on higher settings not so much a possibility.
Just wondering into town is also a bad idea, because you will easily get surrounded, with no way out. (Unless you have already an established base with sheet ropes and all stairs broken down, then you can loot the adjacent flats.)
Your best option is to enter from the east. The map is now extended, but there used to be a roadblock on the eastern road with a few cars. I usually used that as a base, and i could sneak into the eastern fringes of town and slowly work my way in. (You can also lure them one by one, or you can set up noise makers in the west, but it will not draw that many away sadly.) So it will take a lot of time to get to the CC. However if you are lucky one of the eastern fringe house blocks might be a "survivor block" meaning tons of ammo and weapons

edit: this is where the road block used to be:

Good plan, i can slam the horn on that road and draw some of them out, maybe cut a path through the forest! That might be the way to go indeed! If there is a gen in that shed aswell i might be able to unlock one of the gas stations

i probably head through this location on the way
https://map.projectzomboid.com/#10092x10944x614
(tehre are cubicles here)

Maybe if i grab some cubicles i can set up for the night some place, even if its fairly hot on the zombie population. hmmm

I think i go give it a try anyways. I should be able to pick up at least some gas on the way

i come from here
https://map.projectzomboid.com/#8303x10042x6586

I made map --> https://ibb.co/vksjbRW

I can go to middleton lake, i dropped a gen there but same thing happened, left it running by accident, and the place became a death trap. Though its not impossible to skirt those zombies into the fields. A failed attempt could really screw me over. SO i have to do something that won't fail

Il check it out :)

also this would be a bonus
https://map.projectzomboid.com/#10173x12740x5442
I got 240 9mm rounds, and a 223 rifle 80 rounds. i have 7 boxes of 308 but i am not bringing the m14 as the m14 must be the loudest gun in the game or something totally responsible for the mess i created at the two nearest gas stations.

Looks like the area is due to see some expansion in future update. From the way it has large part of the town empty and the road cuts off

If you go to the houses on the east side of March Ridge you have better odds of finding survivor houses due to the sheer number of them. It's also slightly less congested than the city center. Stay away from the community center unless you want to fight thousands of zeds at once.

If I were you, I'd try to sneak into the eastern parts and raid the houses.

The houses on the west side is the house that is marked by the Annotated Map, not far from blue community center, is also marked. May be possible to use the M14 to draw them out of town. and then slip in with a silent vehicle. My sneak is approaching 4, my lightfoot also fairly decent. So it may be possible. But i did land on the aforementioned Logging facility, which is full of gear Garden Forks, metal etc. Propane torches. etc. Lots of vehicles. Cubicles, managed to get what i needed, full gas, a number of gas cans full, and a sports car, fuill aswell, still unchecked cars there. so i am in no rush to execute the march ridge plan anymore. So i think i consider it a while longer while i do some other work. Like build up spear. Maybe lure some away from muldraugh police station now i've got a sports car the run shouldn't be too taxing. If i get an old muffler i might be able to drag quite a few with me. Or drag an old ambulance and use its siren. :)
If i can get shells i can then enter march more confidently, and get as many Survivor homes as i can out of it. Likely get the VHS aswell.

Heat maps are great.

March Ridge has the same population density as West Point, its just smaller. So its going to be a step up from the Riverside/Rosewood farmlands.

I'd go to Riverside if I were you, there is a junkyard you can siphon a lot of gas out of on the top left side of town. Quite a few parking lots; and a couple gas stations too, between Riverside and it's trailer park. Should be able to stock up enough gas there to go wherever and back a few times.

We'll see i might.

It be a good warm up for LV. Especially if i can get decent fire-arms there. Shotgun mainly. Expecting an m16 drop at Jamieton after the 3 month mark. perhaps i wait even longer until i am seeing Katanas in the wild.

You cannot really lure them all away. Even if you start shooting at the edge of the town all you will accomplish is that the ones hiding in the forest or in the plains will go towards you.
And there are a 1-2 thousand zombies outside the perimeter too. The place that has the fewest zombies is the southeast part of town is why everyone suggests coming from there.
You can try to come from the West (I once did), and i managed to get into one of the houses and set up shop, but it took me 2 weeks to smash down all the stairs in the house block. But it was sheer luck as i crossed through the forest at night and ran into no zombies while sneaking(level 8 sneak and 6 lightfooted). And the most southwestern house did not have that many zombies around, so i could enter hang out a few sheet ropes, then destroy the stairs, and climb up. Of course a day after on one side of the house a few hundred zeds were present.

Another option is to use the fence of the school, but you need decent strenght and fitness to make it work, and really need to look out exhaustion. With a few spears you can kill a few hundred zeds that are in the school yard, and from there work your way in, once you secured the school as a base.

It's funny, I just escaped from March Ridge in my current run. Moved to the ranger station in the Northwest.

Sometimes these Army Quarters have ammo, 45s and stuff. Sometimes they have nothing at all.

Where the ranger station at?

If i can get in with an ambulance or a police car on tow, i may be able to dump it off road just down here. And buy some time to to loot. If there are sirens or blockades in town, it may be possible :) :P I don't know, i will just have to take the risk eventually. and if i die call it a GG.

Luckily i am at 6 strength, 6 fitness, and do have time to build but its 60k to build fitness. Currently 3000 of it in. 1/4 on the squat regularity. Fatigue is not so bad. Wares off quickly as long as i do one or two sessions a day. Depends on weather. I had a storm ETA for 2 days, and so spent some time squatting and reading everything i had. Preparing and freezing meals, and cooking all my eggs up making egg soup and stir fry and stuff. The unhappiness indicated they were about to go rotten i guess. Even in freezer. I'll check out all routes, and figure out an entry.

But its likely ill use the main entrance and have a noise making plan, There have been a bunch of cop cars and an old unusable ambulance (only usable for siren) at the wreck crossroads by mul not far from there. Its not as ideal as towing a lightweight police car, but it may just do the trick or take some heat off of me while i do stuff.

This is where your moltovs come in
First clear out a farm field - put your car on one side, go make ton of noise and pull massive hordes. Let them come into the field and throw moltovs. Run into the car drive away.

You should kill off a few hundred zed and not burn down the town.
You can make this better by putting an alarm clock down to keep them aggroed in the field longer

:D

I know but, if i have to go to sleep i cant leave the burning horde unattended and i cant hang around if my walk speed is 1mph that is total last resort lol

Maybe i if there was a storm due that night

I've never managed to stay in March Ridge for more than 2 days as it's extremely boring and tedious to loot. The loot is actually surprisingly good. On default rare settings most homes contain multiple weapons and ammo but annotated houses might not be subject to this rule.
For me it's always been boring because of how repetitive, lame and boring the whole place is. Just the same houses everywhere.
I've always traveled there with a car. Taking the road from Rosewood or Maldraugh on foot is a terrible idea as it's packed with zombies. The entrance of the city is also packed. I always just drive straight towards the south eastern block with the long fences and go from there.
If you're on a mission it's a fun challenge. If you're going to do some thorough looting, try not to go insane IRL.
march ridge is a pain in the ass.
