I'll give 5 mods that I recommend for a begginer player:

All these mods won't make any alteration on the basic functions of the game, just make it better to read the UI and some QoL that will make things faster to you, but not easier.

OFC, if you still want to stack full convertion mods and cosmetic mods, you do you.

if you are new to the game and haven't learned all the mechanics yet, play vanilla at first or maybe just add vehicle mods.

if you mod all out and are new, you won't be able to tell what is real game stuff or what is mod stuff and it makes seeking help a bit harder.

Go easy on mods at first, then as you play and know more about the mechanics, you can say "I wish I could do this or that." then look for a mod that does that or this.

for vehicle mods, go to workshop tab. look "browse by tag" and select vehicles
you now will see any mod tagged with the vehicle tag.

I suggest just vehicle mods because they usually don't change up much code, just give you some cool rides while you learn to play and what to expect from vanilla systems.

============
There are lots of mods out there that change the game, add items, new code...be careful adding mods without testing as you go.

please don't come back here and say "I added 100 mods and now my game is broke, plaese fix" :steamhappy:

add a mod, understand what it does and how it changes vanilla code, then test it out in game. add another mod and test it with the the other mod you added. small changes.

Baby steps, first understand the game. Then ask why you think you need to change it with a mod.

KI5 military vehicles are perfectly fine to get even if you're a new player.
That just gives you more vehicle space to use so the looting is easier
