Until now, I usually get something like this:
Attachment 70% + spear 100% = improved spear at 70% (that's the condition of the attachment, then you retrieve the spear at 30% or higher %).
Nowadays I don't attach anything to spears, they're lighter and cheaper in materials and building time.
I also have never attached anything to the spear before because I didn't want to bring duct tapes around. So I just found this out recently.
I just happened to stocked up a lot of duct tapes and found a lot of survivor houses in my March Ridge playthrough, so I happened to have a lot of spears, machetes, and duct tapes. And found out about this when I tried to attach my machete on the spears.
I get confused about what takes damage in what situations. My crowbar loses HP whether I am killing zeds or beating down garage doors, but I can wear a ball peen hammer down to 1 HP and still go do carpentry all day with it.
Well, there are several things here.
There's something called Weapon Condition, Condition Lower Chance, and Base Durability on each weapon.
Machete and Spear with Machete have their own stats. With Machete having more durability but less power compared to when it's attached to a spear.
And IRL logic aside, attacking objects will lower any weapon's condition. Or has a chance to, at least.
