Your aim is almost 90 degrees off. What game lets you hit if you're off by that margin?
Exactly, the absolute bottom of the barrel in video games. It's right there with King Games.
Long story short: The circle (aim at their feet) If you arnt in combat stance, then use your cursor to aim at their head, then go into combat stance and you will notice that the circle is already on their feet. (even if training it says, this circle is in relation to where you are looking at on the ground. You will notice your accuracy go up significantly when you aim the circle at their feet. Or the top of the bar on top of their head (although this does not give a headshot when standing)
Here is a tip to never miss again (besides the green outline). If you are not in combat stance, place your "Cursor" over their head (does not give a headshot but aligns your targeting perfectly) Once in combat stance, place the circle below their feet (slightly behind is ok but you will become incredibly accurate if you aim for their feet instead of behind)
I'm able to clear out hordes of zombies (no multi-hit) with a rolling pin only but pinpointing who im targetting in a group.

Obvious plus for m+k is quicker looting/inv manegement and choosing when to stomp or push etc.
I've made a visualization in where you went wrong:

Player skills improve all the time, if they're willing to actually learn from their mistakes.
Pretty sure this has been said already, but go into options, Display, click on "Show cursor while aiming" then go down to Aim Outline and choose "any weapon" from the dropdown menu. You can also change iso icon visibility and a bunch of other stuff. The Accessibility menu is also filled with neat little things.
Also, there is Nurse's PZ channel that has a buttload of 30 second how-to and "did you know?" videos that explain the game (and playing it) in 30 seconds per vid. Go watch them.
Oh yeah AND PLAY THE GAME'S TUTORIAL AND READ THE POP UP INSTRUCTIONS.
Sheesh. =P
Welcome to Project Zomboid. Buckle up. You're Rick Grimes (especially when NPCs are added back in), not Call of Duty Zombies Soldier-Man.
