The combat is total garbage.
What's up with the combat system? Half the time my character is facing the wrong direction... to me this seems like a serious issue.

Just turn on outline for everything, it'll highlight zombies with a green outline when you can hit them.

Your aim is almost 90 degrees off. What game lets you hit if you're off by that margin?

or 2.5d because it adds the third axis where as 2d does not have a z axis

We need to be able to change color of white circle that shows direction you're aiming. We need also need to change the symbol... cross hairs would be nice, nice bright red or bright green.

Most console FPS

Exactly, the absolute bottom of the barrel in video games. It's right there with King Games.

When in combat stance, aim beyond the zombie, not on the zombie. Trying to click on them is going to generally have your character spin around. It's a little awkward at first, but you'll get the hang of it.

You can have a green outline show what is in range of any weapon by going to Settings > Display > Aim Outline > Any Weapon. By default it's on only for guns.
I will fully disagree, once you understand exactly how the targetting system works. You aim at them. Now here is your tip. This is how I was able to kill 82 zombies with 2 rolling pins before the end of my first day (without multi-target). The "Circle" at the bottom is where you are looking at on the ground. So place that at their feet, You will never miss who you are targetting. Allows you to take on groups of 15+ zombies, although it may take a while. So ignore aiming beyond them. While that can help, it makes it difficult to pinpoint zombies you want to take out first in a horde.

Long story short: The circle (aim at their feet) If you arnt in combat stance, then use your cursor to aim at their head, then go into combat stance and you will notice that the circle is already on their feet. (even if training it says, this circle is in relation to where you are looking at on the ground. You will notice your accuracy go up significantly when you aim the circle at their feet. Or the top of the bar on top of their head (although this does not give a headshot when standing)

Here is a tip to never miss again (besides the green outline). If you are not in combat stance, place your "Cursor" over their head (does not give a headshot but aligns your targeting perfectly) Once in combat stance, place the circle below their feet (slightly behind is ok but you will become incredibly accurate if you aim for their feet instead of behind)

I'm able to clear out hordes of zombies (no multi-hit) with a rolling pin only but pinpointing who im targetting in a group.

Poorly aimed and done while walking right into the zombie.

Just made a quick video explaining aiming and combat.

Melee and shooting is smoother and more accurate for me on controller tbh and you can zig zag better between hordes and kite safer, once you learn the controls I like it better than m+k and it's also more immersive chilling on controller because of the amount of hours one session can go on for.

Obvious plus for m+k is quicker looting/inv manegement and choosing when to stomp or push etc.

No you don't just point your cursor at them when you know what you are doing. I'm very comfortable with combat and take out large groups and I never put my cursor on the zombie. It's always behind them. Angle and distance are the most important parts of combat, not where your cursor is. Your way is exactly what is causing issues for some these people. If it works for you great, but that doesn't mean it's the only way or even the best way.

Let's hope it gets improved sooner than later.

Player skills improve all the time, if they're willing to actually learn from their mistakes.

I would recommend not actually aiming beyond and should do on the zombie, just realize that the cursor is not your target but below that when in combat stance. Think of the circle as where you are aiming, that circle just isn't where the cursor is which messes people up.

Pretty sure this has been said already, but go into options, Display, click on "Show cursor while aiming" then go down to Aim Outline and choose "any weapon" from the dropdown menu. You can also change iso icon visibility and a bunch of other stuff. The Accessibility menu is also filled with neat little things.

Also, there is Nurse's PZ channel that has a buttload of 30 second how-to and "did you know?" videos that explain the game (and playing it) in 30 seconds per vid. Go watch them.

Oh yeah AND PLAY THE GAME'S TUTORIAL AND READ THE POP UP INSTRUCTIONS.

Sheesh. =P

Welcome to Project Zomboid. Buckle up. You're Rick Grimes (especially when NPCs are added back in), not Call of Duty Zombies Soldier-Man.
