As per OP: gun loudness has decreased a ton.
But ofc you still wanna level up aiming before using handguns/rifles.
Shotgun is better used as a training weapon tbh, it seems to cap at around 2-7 kills depending on luck and shooting rank in my experience.
once you get high enough of a level, I'd try using an assault rifle, better range, and roughly the same amount of kills per magazine.
But honestly though, the biggest bang for your buck is just parking two cars next to eachother in a manner that prevents the zombies from getting to the driver side door, starting a long lasting fire in front of your car, and then just holding the horn down till the fires stop.
For instance if you live in a semi-remote area, and the chopper brings you a lot of friends it is a good way to get rid of all the zombies, and the ones that were brought nearby but stopped someplace within earshot, but are not yet noticeable.
In one of my 1 peaceful year challenges (the save is not compatible anymore sadly) i had about 500 zombies visit a semi remote area i lived in due to one of the chopper events. Without shotguns, pistols it would have taken over a week to clear them out via melee. Also with using the guns i was able to clear out all the zeds in the vicinity and within earshot of my base. So i could focus on all the stuff i was forced to abandon because all of the friends that came to pay a visit.
Shotguns are great though that are breach or tube loaded don't have the problems though and are thus incredible, so long as you have the ammo you can easily wipe out a whole town with a shotgun, even on Fast Shamblers. Sprinters are another story though.
Even with 10 Aiming and 10 Reloading, the magazine fed semi automatics will let you down pretty quickly, but a shotgun won't let you down at all even at 0 in both. Unless you forget to rack it at an inconvenient moment, anyway. Or when it decides to aim at zombies across the street instead of the ones directly in front of you. Y'know, #JustZomboidThings.
Huge investment, 10 minutes of killing a few hundred zombies with a shotgun for level 4 aiming and reloading. 10 minutes to round up the zombies and lose them in the woods so you can loot a police station. Not much of an investment imo 😀
I guess you could just kite that nonsense with a spiked bat around the block until you die from exhaustion, meh.
Yes, it's full of bad and an enormous desire to git gud. If you can't even handle anything other than a shotgun at 10 aiming there's something seriously wrong with the way you play.
