Project Zomboid

Game runs atrocious on decent hardware
I can play halo infinite on 60 fps and Hades on 144, yet Zomboid runs at a staggering 14fps in crowded places. And ~26 by default zoomed out.

Interesting game

Interesting game

How much memory have you allocated too it?

Minecraft rules dude, it runs on Java IIRC, you could have 160 billion terabytes of ram, but if you're only allocating 2gb, its only gonna use 2gb, even if it needs 20gb, it'll choke and die before it uses more than 2gb.

COD would be a far better game to compare frames with than zomboid plus i only use a onboard and i get 30 odd fps in louisville which is the most dense part of the map bar a few select places so if allocating more ram doesnt work id submit a bug report because thats just strange

Yeah didnt work. Still 20fps zoomed out in a rural area. I mean who cares i bought this like 8 years ago and thought Id try it out but all this game gave me was headaches. Have fun with it I guess, I already wasted 5 hours of my life trying to get it running decently.

this game wont run very well on any hardware....you just have to ignore it. its the game's engine limitation....you wont really feel the fps drops in a top angle half 2d game like this if you dont pay attention to it

I can try to take a crack at it then, if you really want, specs and all that Jazz, I’ve got an old machine but honestly I’ve never dropped below 40fps with half of muldrough on fire.

ryzen 7 2700x, xfx 5700 gpu. 4-5yr old pc and ive never dropped under 60fps with max everything. so what are you crying about?
Lockenheada Jan 10, 2022 @ 12:51pm
GTX 970, Quad Core i5-4460 (I know out of date), and 16GB DDR3 RAM
results in a whopping
- ~14fps in crowded areas, mid zoom.
- ~20fps zoomed out anywhere
- ~45-55fps completly zoomed in
at 1080p.

I could list all the games it runs smoothly but lets just say nothing really comes to mind that doesnt run smoothly. Guess I can look forward to play this isometric mediocre looking game once I upgrade my CPU, Mainboard and RAM for 800€. Oh boy.

A little note: It does not even utilize my CPU beyond 54%

Yes but you can compare this game to ALL other games. Be it isometric games like Wasteland 3, Divinity 2, Hades or Disco Elysium.
Even tile based Isometric games like The Last Spell.
CPU intensive games like Crusader Kings 3, Civ 6 or the Total War Series.

It all runs fine and if it doesnt run fine at highest 1440p i turn down a few settings and the resolution and then it will. With Zomboid it doesnt. All while it has a lower complexity in graphical fidelity and systems in the backround. It just seems very unoptimized

Try allocating 8 of ram, allocating 16gb of ram while only having 16gb of ram overall is not a great idea.

That outta the way, the common solution is disabling zoom over 200% it’s not 100% fix though., YMMV. I’m out of the house right now or I would take a better crack at it, sorry dude.

performance on my machine is pretty good, only time i get performance hits is in louisville zoomed out to max driving a vehicle with a crap load of zeds around. I just zoom in a little n it's fine. optimization will come you just gotta be patient or strong arm it with power like I did.

I have the same problem, is weird, because after playing a while, it starts to go like in pieces, actually everytime a zombie gives a step, freezes and then continue, is a really pain in the ass and i don't have a potato pc for this thing to happen, is really weird and annoying as hell, i usually just exit the game and play something else is frustrating
