Honestly I would already have if the 4 pack was not a 3 pack if you already own the game yourself
Still worth the like $10 I paid for it back then or whatever it was. Think I got a Desura key? Had to pay through Google Wallet (or something like that). Who can remember that long ago.
Point is, they were clear in the beginning that the price would go up as development went on... who knew development would take this long...
No we're not. As others have said, we publicly said repeatedly that the price would be going up after Build 41. So we committed to this long before there was any hype. The fact that there has subsequently been hype left up with two options, continue doing the thing we said we were going to do (the price rise is roughly equivalent to £2.50 above what the price ought to be if we were keeping the price in line with inflation, so a very modest price rise all things considered) and suck up the fact that the hype will likely lead to precisely this kind of accusation, or throw away the principle of Early Access games where the earlier in development you buy, the cheaper you get the game for. We chose the first option.
edit: I would also add that the hype has been fuelled, at least in a small way, by the fact that people knew the price would be going up so getting the game during a sale period with the existing price meant that this last Winter Sale was a very good time to pick the game up if people were on the fence.
Second, the game is in early access. That means it's not a complete product, but as time passes and development progresses, it comes closer to being a complete product, so it makes sense that the price would increase exponentially to reflect that. Project Zomboid is very far from being the first game to have a price increase mid-early access. This month, for example, Caves of Qud will also have its price increased.
Maybe TIS could've better communicated that the price was going to increase and when, but that's irrelevant to the issue raised in this thread.
If anyone feels like $20 is too much for a game such as this, then... don't buy it. Wait for a sale or just never look at it again. It's that simple. If someone wasn't even considering getting it when it was $15, then they're just blowing off smoke by complaining that the price increased in the first place.
That's when I got it. Support games you like, otherwise you have no investment, so why cry about it?
If this was a game that you could complete in a few hours, I'd agree with you, but the amount of replay on this is huge.
In fact, most indie games are between 10 and 25 bucks, just stop being entitled. 20 bucks is cheap
