Hemophobic - does it go away over time?
Hi everyone,

most people are aware now, that certain perks lose their heavy impact on the char over time, just so name a few:

Agoraphobic and Claustrophobic
Coward
Of course every weight related trait

The time mostly excepted for the former three are roughly 3-4 months, where the effect is basically gone or extremly slim.
We also now that perks like Smoker or Hearty Appetite wont lose their effect so its an all or nothing perk, which will stay with you throughout the game.

Since the change, I personally think Hemophobic is one of the most awful perks, as even a single zombie and only a slight blood splatter will cause your character to get panicked, which makes him instantly more vulnerable, if not useless, in any combat related situation.
Yet I want to ask, if people had experimented with it and maybe found its effect also decreasing over time, besides the "stress inducing" self heal maybe?

I am currently more or less playing an nearly every neg-perk related guy, but I do not use the following perks:

Agoraphobic (its just too much for my taste and I like to forage an fish) - cant take it anymore anyway, if you grab Claustrophobic

Sunday Driver (its ... you know, lets just not talk about it)

Short Sighted (I like my vision, also it dampens foraging success)

Asthamtic (permanent flaw towards fitness, although I start with 0 lol)

Restless Sleeper (personall, THE MOST F*ed perk, I like to play the game and not being an awaken corpse)

With that being said, Hemophobic is also in that list, as I hated to heavy stress inducing.
I know you can wash yourself and with rain barrels, water isnt that much of a problem, or maybe living near a river/lake, but I personally rather play the game a little more, instead of looking at my char and a self-filling bar every possible minute. Besides: The damp into combat is always there.

But: I really would like to go more or less all in, into the "as much neg for as much pos"-sim, so here is my question:

Does Hemophobic work like for ex. Coward, and WILL GO AWAY OVER TIME?!

OR

Does Hemophobic work like ex. Smoker, and WILL STCIK WITH YOU FOREVER?

Thanks in advance for anyone providing his/her experiences and maybe technical insight.

Have a wonderful start into 2022 and may you and your beloved ones stay safe.

afaik Smoker is removable.
Hemophobic i have no clue, but since it has two actual effects i do not even know if both, or eitehr can be removed by time.

So no clue. Make a game speed up time, and advance 8 months:) if it is gone you have your answer!

It stays with you forever. Stress lowers your damage output and has potential to interrupt your sleep. Not a big deal if you play in Apocalypse difficulty since you're weaker in combat due to no multihit anyway.

I play with adrenaline junkie and extreme panic + nervous wreck: with 6 strength and fully rested you'll be killing a downed zombie in 1-3 stomps. With a machete you need lvl2 skill to start seeing 1-hit kills. Smoking will actually temporarily outpace the stress gain from hemophobic. TBH getting tired will tank your damage output much more than panic and stress combined.

Smoker goes away only with a mod :) but then if you smoke again, you're hooked again. Love that mod.

Claustrophobic basically went away for me after a few days except for really small (less than 8 tiles for example) rooms. Since all the good loot locations are basically large, massive buildings with huge rooms it doesn't trigger anymore unless I loot some more cans from kitchens.

Also since panic is just combat related (it shouldn't be imho) any non-combat activity can be done while completely panicked.

I've also played with Hemophobic, which is a complete ♥♥♥♥ show. The immense time it takes to clean yourself makes this just not worth it. Also, it's stress, which is not just combat related.

Thank you, too everyone for your information and sharing your experience. :)

It seems like for now, I have basically reached the utmost crippling in the beginning, without any further severe consequence.
I used Hemophobic once more since it was updated and as @Quineloe said, I felt heavily gimped. For me, its the 2nd worst perk after "Restless Sleeper" for now and feels very underpriced for its severe effect.

I always choose restless sleeper, it's really not that bad imho. It's very manageable for me anyway, as someone who is a restless sleeper irl you just take energy consumables or take consumables to help you stay asleep longer. I tend to take naps when my character needs them (in secure places), and then go do productive stuff, keeping an eye out for energy boosts just in case I run out.

I haven't personally tried Hemophobia. It also doesn't seems like Hemophobia is accurate in this game either, since Hemophobia is unique and produces what’s called a vasovagal response. Something like 80% of Hemophobic people experience fainting, which would probably suck worse than just the basic panic system the game has. :Deathstone::BloodyYay:

I'm actually shocked they didn't add in Mysophobia.

Actually not sure about that. I think the mod makes it faster go away.
There is a video about a lot of negative traits taken up, but i cant recall if smoker was among them. But perhaps i will try it out once i have time.

Hemophobia isn't terrible to play with if you use it with smoker and mostly use blunt weapons. I can kill a lot of zombies before my anxiety gets too high, and when it does I can just quickly smoke it away. Cleaning clothes can be annoying though.

If read with RS you never fully be awake and I experienced that myself too often, that the "Drowsy" moodle basically appeared right after I woke up.

vitamins do next to nothing for me, and given how massive even drowsy melee penalties are.. I mean you can waste a lot of time until you RNG into good sleep, but that's not for everyone.

I'm able to sleep a long time after taking sleeping pills (more often than not), even drinking alcohol until you are tipsy can cause you to sleep for a while too I noticed. Idk, it's just not that bad for me I guess. Yes, sometimes my character will wake up in a panic after taking pills too, but that's fine because the moodle is gone for a little while, and I'll just take a nap after doing something productive.

I actually never mess with vitamins before so idk how effective they are (I might have tried them a long time ago but they didn't really seem effective). I use coffee most of the time or tea if I find them, or just setup multiple safe houses in the area so I have secure places to go for a quick nap if I need it.

Yeah it's definitely not a playstyle for everyone, but it works for me I guess and even fighting while slightly tired has never affected me negatively... I'll never try to fight when I am like drowsy though, I just sneak most of the time until I reach one of my secure houses.
