Helicopters keep messing up my base
So, whenever i try apocalypse mode, things are fine and dandy until the damn helicopter comes. With it, it brings hordes of zombies from all around to my base, and since zombies dont want to go around anything, they just smack trough my quiet base's closed doors and covered windows and still even if i hide, find me in my closet in the middle of the base.

Do they still aggro like that? Last time it happened i tried to run away, but there was more and more zombies, until I cut my leg on a branch and couldnt run and got swarmed.

You have 2 options, get better at losing hordes, or starting a game with your own custom sandbox difficulty and turn the helicopter event off.

Devs confirmed that smell option for zombies doesn't do anything yet.

Is "Environmental Attacks" for zombies on by default ? Or does the helicopter flying above you count as hearing the player and trying to break through everything to get to the heli's noise ?

Hi there, what i do when i start the game is that i don't build or search for a base yet.Instead i will be watching tv to get exp and looting house not far from my starting house(i never loot house close to mine in case of alarm).there 2 reason why you want to do it.First one is you want to find a car and wait for the helicopter event to pop and be ready to leave once its happening.Stock water and food in your car.

The other reason is that in apo the zombie spawn rate is almost doubled due mainly because its take 28 days to reach max zombie population. You can alway look at the online map to prepare yourseflt to leave for your permant base.Once the event happen and your survived it.You can leave for your perma base and start clearing around.

Work really well for me.

Typically, for me when I hear the helicopter event coming I run like hell away from my base. You shouldn't stay near anything you hold dear when a heli event begins because the helicopter will draw zombies for many, many tiles onto you. Zombies typically cannot out run you. Unless you're carrying a lot of times you should be able to just walk away from them.

My tips are:
1. when you hear the heli event begin, run or preferably drive away from your base unless you're feeling particularly ballsy and want to fight a horde.
2. If you have too much gear on you or are suffering from a negative trait such as asthma or overweight / underweight, dump gear that's particularly unhelpful, or overweighing, and keep an eye on your endurance. Don't reach max exertion when walking / running from zombies. Also, don't sprint all the time! jog, jog, and more jogging!
3. Do the occasional 360 turn to keep an eye on your surroundings when fleeing on foot.

Yeah, running for the hills at the first chop of the blades is generally the answer. And then either kill the zombies as they come to you (if in numbers you can handle), or go deeper in the wood trails. Eventually the helicopter will ♥♥♥♥ off, and then you don't have to worry about it. By default, it only ever happens once per save file.

For the past few playthroughs I haven't had an issue with hordes at my base when helicopter comes. Even if caught outside when it happens. But then again I clear out alot of the hordes in the area before then.
Don't go outside during the event or the chopper will track you down and follow you

As soon as you hear chopper drive away from your base until chopper sound stop, chopper follows you and zombies follows chopper. When it stop you can return to your base.

That's the weird part, i usually just sit on my ass in the base closet when the heli comes by, but the zombies still swarm my base, and since it was a new save and did not yet have tools to rebuild doors, its just hard.

I always try to find an house with two floors which is not too close but not too far
from my base. I kill the zombies around it, barricaded the windows and put
some escape ropes.

When the helicopter event happen, I go there with some food and books
and hide somewhere to read. I wait a few hours AFTER the helicopter
stop flying around, check around to see where the zombies
are, escape from the house, lose the zombies and returned to my base.

Why is killing them not an option?

Loot the po-po before helicopter event. Pick a location that is secured on one side with high wall fencing, ideally two or even three sides, and shotgun blast the incoming zombies.

Zombies can pull down ropes. If a horde comes to your base, and you have escape ropes on windows, they can and will sometimes pull them down if they don't see you. They may not prioritize it but they definitely will tear them down. Always keep spare sheet ropes, hammers, and nails near windows
