zombified after drinking bleach
Maybe I'm stupid and missing something obvious, after all I didn't really get into this game until recently when I started playing iwbums. This is the first time I had a successful enough save to make it worth trying to respawn instead of starting a new save with water and power, and I got the impression drinking bleach would cure being alive without the side effect of your body soldiering on to a new location. I guess it's worth noting I had the infection for about an in-game day before I found a bottle, since since there is basically one giant horde in the middle of town from a house alarm, but I died pretty quickly upon doing the clean stomach challenge so I assume it wasn't the infection killing me first. Basically I'm asking if this was a bug, I did something wrong, or poison can't stop an infection and if that's the case what's the point of the item?

It was never possible to cure the infection, at least with normal game.

There was a vaccine fanmade mod, but it was not a complete cure, but just more time before transform (death).

Basically, you're bitten -> RIP.

Sorry if my wording was bad. I knew it wasn't a cure, I was wondering why after drinking a full bottle of bleach I still got the "zombified" hud icon and saw my character stand up. I just looked on the wiki and it says the same thing I thought, which is that it can be used to die and start a new character without your current one becoming a zombie.

Only thing I can think of what it might be is infection settings if you changed them? I think if it's set to "everyone's infected" you zombify regardless of how you die. If not maybe drinking bleach just doesn't work for preventing that anymore.

Are you asking why you became a zombie even though you were infected but committed suicide?

I think Night of the Living Dead / Walking Dead rules apply.

Any death that happens to a living human being that doesn't outright destroy the brain will reanimate them as a zombie. So if your character were to jump out of a window and die, they would rise again as a zombie. Regardless of being perfectly healthy or infected before death.

I think if they had the option to actually blow your brains out with a gun, that'd give you the proper, no transformation end of life you are looking for, I think.

On default "proper zombies" settings though, transmission is only through blood + saliva. So in other words, bites/scratches. You can however change it to "Everyones infected" to get the walking dead style infection.

I'm playing survivor difficulty, no custom settings. I had the thought that maybe since the wiki article was written they changed it, but then why would they make an item that had a purpose essentially useless only to create slightly more difficulty in reclaiming your gear? I did barricade the room I was in before doing it so it shouldn't be too hard to track down my stuff, again I just posted here because it seemed odd and maybe a bug.

Once you become infected you will turn. Drinking bleach wouldn't be enough to stop it since the brain needs to be destroyed to stop it. When you get infected you should do one of two things. 1. Close your character in a room that you can easily make your way back to. Or 2. Go drop all your loot at your base and then allow yourself to be eaten.

Fun fact: exploding/setting yourself on fire doesn't stop it either.

Once infected by zombie bite/scratch, your corpse will become a zombie basically no matter how you die. Dying early doesn't mean the infection goes away; Just means it now has a corpse to raise that much sooner. The progression of the virus ultimately leads to death; But being infected at all means rising as a zombie after death. (This is why you die, then rise again, rather than simply becoming a zombie on your feet.)

If the item you're referring to is bleach, it has uses other than killing your character; It can be used to clean blood off walls with a mop/towel for example...might have other uses but i dont know any.

Cooking ingredient. It’s poison, so this is mainly to kill NPCs and other players (both of which are currently unavailable in IWBUMS).

It didn't occur to me to use it to clean up blood, the most I've done so far to aesthetically improve my bases was bury bodies, and putting it in food to poison people in multiplayer sounds cool as ♥♥♥♥. Anyway thanks for the insights about the game, I guess logically it does make sense that if a body can walk around with a spear through it's stomach a gallon of bleach wouldn't do much to stop it.

I don't think I understand but if is asking if it will cure you no just fast death to respawn

I like the antiserum mod , think that is the name, you can test yourself to see if you are infected but need a lot of first aid skill 1 to test, 5 to make cure I think

So you will never get to cure as leveling first aid is just not a thing unless you want to keep hurting yourself to do it
