Funny you mentioned those, I discovered my first one earlier today. Never seen them in cars though. Do they only spawn in garages, workshops and toolsheds?
I don't remember ever finding a car with big seat or big gas tank pre-installed. You can find them from the locations you mentioned but they are quite rare.
Also installing/uninstalling seats is a good way to level up mechanics since the condition of the seat doesn't affect it's storage capacity (at least this is how it was before B41, haven't tried yet in the latest version).
The tires will also slowly lose their pressure so remember to inflate them regularly to keep your car running smoothly.
I've never seen them get damaged by anything else than failed uninstall or install attempt.
As I understand any driving whatsoever over 10 mph (or kph?) causes wear ticks. Driving off road, adds more wear ticks. Corpses, I assume would follow this rule, but I don't know.
Interestingly, you can now make a road from wooden flooring, but not gravel or sand afaik. Looked for a link for the last hour, couldn't find. Some Indie Stone forum discussion somewhere...
I know the outside get's damaged and how it happens, I was just wondering about seats specifically. Never seen 'em degrade over time.
Also, why can't you make a sand or gravel road? You can just fill a gravel/sand bag with a shovel right? Just need a shovel and an empty sack. Just unsure if gravel/sand allows trees to sprout.
The road thing was a quick add based on player feedback, but the add only applied to player laid wood floor tiles. Other "road" methods don't provide the wear protection. (yet? Or maybe they do by now, but the only one I can confirm is wood.) I suppose either bag material could get pretty bumpy, but boy they sure look better in practice.
e: Some things I could imagine wearing a seat might be the constant in and out of the car, and doing things like dropping a generator in your passenger seat or filling it to capacity. I'll keep an eye out moving forward. /e
Never even stopped to think about off road driving increasing the wear on the car. Most of my cars don't last that long anyways, I'm constantly finding "upgrades" when traveling around.
Get yourself to level 4/5/6 in mechanics to keep your engine in tip top shape, the lower the engine rating the more likely it will not start right away or stall while driving. Obviously don't strip engine parts from a car you might want to use. 1 part = 1% engine repair up to a maximum of 100% of course.
I'll drive into a wall at 120 and see if the seats get damaged (you can tell I don't put much value on the average survivor).
You can drive your car through double doors. Hmmmm. I wonder if I can zoom into the front and out the back of the West Point office building. Also, I'm going to drive a car up stairs. I think I'll try that right now...
[EDIT]
Well no go on the office building, I forgot it's not double doors (Unless you do the sledge hammer thing)
Stairs are a no go either. Bummer. :)

What about the seats? Did you test those yet?
I did plow into a tree with a beater car, I had surviver #6 check the car, seats didn't loose any value. Maybe seats take damage after the engine gets to zero. Problem with near zero is that your car stalls an insane amount of time.
What a necro
Hitting anything with your rear will damage the trunk.
