You can find maps to use, but its not going to tell you where you are on the map. Just like in real life, you have to figure that out.

So you can't draw a map on all that spare paper you find in the world?
Just like in real life..
Nice to know you can find them though. Hopefully sketchable maps will be a thing in future to mark POIs.
Which I've alwaysI found odd. I mean, all everyone does is alt-tab between the game and that map... so why don't the devs just put one in the game? What are they trying to stop? If they're trying to stop metagaming they are way, way, way too late to the party. This is 2018, not 1988. The PAC-MAN wars are over, damnit!
I get those who love realism (and probably spend their time looking at Zomboid craftin/build/strategy guides in google just like you would in a real life crisis) wouldn't want the map, but it should certainly be an optional feature. Would make things more user friendly and less annoying.
Anyways, happy New Year all.
and regional maps.
This is really good to know.
I still think if you find a pen and paper then your character should sketch a few basic POIs, then later upgrade to the found map with the same POIs copied over, but perhaps the devs are concentrating on other issues.
Make a map in your head of where everything is
Or maybe the dev should add a GPS to map your location but it requires batterys
You chose your starting town randomly, so that's what you got and need to figure things out.
Hop in a car, and drive to the town outskirts. For traffic coming the other way, look for a green info sign that indicates the town name.
Other than that, look for landmarks like police station, hotels, churches, etc. that you can use for orientation, and confirm which map that you're on.
