Area-Denial GLs are better for area denial. and Witherhoard is better for passive Boss/Champ damage.
In detail;
Area-Denial GLs can inherently do most of what Witherhoard can do. ADGLs have lower base damage, but they've got good enough damage perks to offset that for add clear and control. They've additionally got a fair amount of utility perks that ultimately relegate Witherhoard to a niche exotic choice. That main use is within Bait and Switch rotations, and it's still a great choice for that.
