destiny 3 isnt planned as far as we know and today a new season just released so right now is a good time to start since after this season ends, the next big chapter in the destiny storyline will begin

The Story may be disjointed without all of the past Seasons/Episodes. Past content getting removed is one of the games issues.

is it possible to solo all the campaigns at if i own all the dlc ...or are still some of them missing? i bought some in the past, but frankly lost interest as i couldnt access what i had bought and just soloing would have been quite enough.

Now is a great time, humble bundle is running a promo where you can get all dlc for $30: https://www.humblebundle.com/games/destiny-2-story-so-far-2025

Most of the main expansion campaigns are playable and soloable. I think the first few years worth of base-game content and an early expansion or two were removed. Everything leading up to the death of Cayde-6, one of the characters who is no longer in the game. Basically everything with that character was removed.

IMO Destiny 2 is a fantastic game. Almost 1800 hours in and I'm a casual player. The only content you can't do solo is raids/dungeons.

Now regarding the story.... It's a LOT and it's been 10 years of steady lore/world building done by Bungie with hours of cutscenes, 5 lore books, etc. But...

There's a Youtube channel called "My name is Byf" and that guy is pure gold - he explains literally EVERYTHING about the story. He has a video going through the story of the whole Destiny franchise starting from OG Destiny 1 with every tiny bit of detail you can imagine.

No.
We are already playing Destiny 3. Since Beyond Light.
There are no plans for a 'Destiny 3'.

In fact, there wasn't even supposed to be a Destiny 2. Bungie only made Destiny 2 because Activision forced them to. The original plan was to create one game and then constantly update it, which is what Bungie is doing now with Destiny 2.

Bungie's current focus is fully on improving Destiny 2 and creating new content. See the below link for details of future Destiny 2 content.

It is worth it. 5 expansions, 3 episodes and another 7 legendary old quests (5 of them on weekly rotation) to play right now, in terms of story. You will be confused at start, having missing out so much removed story, seasons, content etc. The original story was removed too. It is worth it because you will find a pure gem in terms of gameplay and build posibilities, the best, most precise, accurate, crisp gunplay in any looter shooter, it's not even close, I'd say it beets even Borderlands. The gameplay carried this game so hard for years. You won't find better games in the genre gunplay wise, the game feels good to play, shoot, move, slide, jump, float, it feels fluid, it plays very well.

I started in 2023, and I think it's totally worth it.

You can play casually or fully invested.

There's also a range of different activities (I love Gambit, many don't) in PvE and PvP beyond the campaign. Essentially something for everyone.

No grinding is required to access all content but idiots try to get god-rolls on all their gear, then get upset because they have 2,000 plus hours of gaming and hate themselves, even so they still come back and play new content editions while trying to discourage newcomers on the steam forums.
