Grinding and RNG are essential components of looter shooter games. These elements are designed to be time-consuming and provide long-lasting engagement, especially with seasonal content and expansions.
What are you smoking?
This is just typical shooter-looter game with artificially created back story to sell this to players for profit.
Destiny's lore has nothing special if you in sci-fi. Destiny is just pile of different sci-fi ideas being put together.
There is no unique games in 2025. I'm telling you this as 43 y.o. Old School Gamer.
You can get (for 3 more days) everything except the dungeon keys for Witch Queen and Lightfall for $30.00 on Humble Bundle, what a staggering price to pay. /s
I have been pre-ordering the deluxe/+annual pass version for years, it works out to less than $9.00/month. If you play a lot it's fine, if you play very little it's pricey.
There is not another game quite like this, it is unique. Every game anything like this has an artificial story, in other words fiction, this is a 2017 game, not a 2025 game. Is the story a bit disjointed, well yes, but as you said it's a looter shooter, but not just like the rest.
I was playing before you were born, was 30 YO when you were born. Not sure how age is all that important to the point.
Never seen another game try and do anything similar to raids/dungeons and especially not contest mode.
You're right it is unnecessary... for the player. Its a looter shooter if you want the loot then do the thing. You can usually get something specific quickly if you do the appropriate activity and the only grind is what you create if you want a specific god roll of a specific weapon or high stat armor neither of which is necessary to do stuff, its just there for the gameplay loop of saying you got it.
Oh, this is bait, right?
Yes, there is progression. You unlock more and more gear, which makes stuff easier, which allows you to get resources much faster, allowing you to unlock even more stuff.
The buildcrafting in this game is the best out of any I have ever seen. Being able to instantly swap between up to 12 setups is incredible.
12 setups that barely have any difference between each other. I could go on and on, but it's clear to me that you don't play RPGs, otherwise you'd have much higher standards.
