Increase the God-forsaken caps.
500,000 Glimmer. Why?! Five Exotic Ciphers. WHY?! I have to discard Exotic Ciphers just to complete quests and reset ranks. Increase the damn caps.

The caps are there so you use them, use exotic ciphers to add the extra stat mod to exotics...

Discard Exotic Ciphers? You ever used Rahool to get better armour?
Imagine if no one had caps and everyone would be hoarding and hoarding until the servers couldn't handle the large amount of numbers of every player farming glimmer and someone then makes a website for the person with the highest amount of glimmer which then makes MORE people play the game just for this until Bungie says, we're going back to 500k glimmer. Because having our servers be used by players trying to take the 1st place for the most glimmer is ridiculous. <--- This whole sentence was made for your only question. This came straight out of my head. Not AI.

I do that when there's a point in doing it.

The maximum integer value for C++ (the code in which Destiny 2 is written) is way up in the billions. Overloading servers? Give me a break. No one will have that many materials.
You mean 2^31? And times the amount of players in the game? Plus the amount of alt accounts a person who modifys the game to get an adavantage? Seen a person that really wanted to find out how many sigils they can have but hadn't noticed there was a 300 max. Yet there they were farming in Act 1.

depends on what kind of integer you use

So instead of throwing it into an useful exotic you just toss it into the trash and if you're just throwing then away because they're useless then why care? You're obviously not using them either way.

They can just have a system where they only have so many people on a server if that's going to be an issue.

Don't even give me that. I know some basic Python. I know math. An integer is any whole number, whether positive or negative.

I do use them on occasion. But what other Exotic would be useful to me? Unless you have some super meta suggestion?

Yo, who rewrote what I said, you(Saint Marold), I only know there's a maximum amount of damage in another game that I won't mention but I have no understanding of C++.

Well, the maximum integer value is way higher than any materials anyone would have.

It so you can't hoard resources. Every time a resource exists with no caps it basically becomes irrelevant over time since dedicate players have too much to the point where it becomes impossible to balance around. Either the costs associated with the currencies were too low, in which case it was impossible to even make a dent in the hoard of currency, or too high in which case new players or casuals wouldn't be able to afford the cost. Notable cases include planet resources and legendary shards, both of which were later removed.

Why does it have to be meta? Grab a good roll on something you think is fun in your vault and slap an exotic cipher in it. I rarely play hunter or warlock but when I do I have some favorite exotics that aren't for end game so I pop em in those for fun.

There's sometimes a difference between "fun" and "effective". I want things that are effective. If they're also fun, that's a happy accident.
