I dropped the game back before Final Shape came out, and I was looking around at if there are games similar to Destiny 2, which there isn't something that scratches that same type of itch.
I just don't want to get back into the game when content is still being removed, and if it looks like it is, I might as well wait for a Destiny 3 if that ever comes.
Gonna be real with you, D3 is never coming. The reason Bungo started removing stuff is to maintain D2, and they've been in that so deep for years it's basically impossible they go back on that now.
There are no plans for a Destiny 3 and never will be.
In fact, Destiny 2 wasn't supposed to exist. The original plan was to create one game and then constantly update it with new content and other stuff. Unfortunately, Activision (Bungie's former publisher) said no to that and wanted multiple games and numerous DLC for each.
Destiny 2 is exactly what Destiny 1 should have been to start with.
Bungie is no longer removing DLC content apart from seasonal stuff (EG: episode activities such as the Court of Blades). All the strikes, raids, dungeons, Gambit maps, and more will always be accessible. Bungie confirmed that a while back.
...but that content is gone. As is all the content before Shadowkeep aside from The Dreaming City and The Last Wish Raid.
It is just difficult for me to want to start playing the game again when 70% of all the game's content I paid for since launch just isn't there anymore, and elements of the story between expansions that give context to characters and their backstories just aren't in the game anymore.
If there isn't a Destiny 3, then I hope there is a full revamp at some point. There isn't anything quite like Destiny, and unfortunately only Destiny 2 is on PC. I would love to be able to play all of D1 at some point, and none of the content there has been removed.
What about if The Red War to Forsaken was Destiny 2 and Destiny 3 was Shadowkeep to now in a revamped engine? I'm sure people would have preferred a trilogy of games instead of a whole game's worth of content just being... gone.
Guess I'll continue to look around for games that are similar to Destiny.
Thank you for all the replies!
In my opinion, you can remove the un, I see it as fortunate that Activision did that. I heard about Destiny before it was released, sounded interesting. I had no console and no desire to get one so never played it. Destiny 2 being on PC is the only reason I got to play it. I still don't want a console.
I wish that they kept Destiny 2 the red war to forsaken, and D3 could have been beyond light to now.
It is already $100 per year from BL onwards for the expansion and all the seasons, so the price of buying D3 outright wouldn't have been bad.
They already said thay Shadowkeep was the beginning of the Light and Darkness narrative proper, so having D2 be more of the 'Warring Factions Saga', or something like that, with the buildup to D3 would have been nice.
One could dream I suppose. I just want to be able to replay the Red War and Forsaken, but those and a vast majority of the narrative beats aren't in the game anymore...
The story on why no Red War is a twisted mess. It's reasonable to think that the changes to the engine for Beyond Light made the old content incompatible, now on top of that we have someone suing them over Cabal and story content of Red War and them saying they had to rely on youtube content to show it because they have no serviceable engine to run the old code. I don't know or even suspect how much of which story is the real reason for no year on content, but I no longer expect to ever see it in game again.
The Forsaken campaign I suspect had something to do with Mara, when she returned she unleashed on the Tangled Shore. Spider has been in a couple of places in the Last City, Even Spider knows better than to be there. The Tangled Shore being inaccessible makes the campaign unworkable.
The reason we didn't get Destiny 2 is Bungie didn't even want to make Destiny 2, they had a ten-year plan for the console game Destiny.
We can all dream, like dreaming of Bungie getting their act together.
...and agreed. I do not think any of the OG Bungie devs from the Halo days are in the company anymore. At least 343 has shifted to Halo Studios, and they have more funds now? Idk may be a good thing for the future on that front.
With Bungie though, unless a D3 comes out or they completely revamp D2, I don't think Destiny nor the extraction shooter wearing Marathon's corpse will be what they need.
I don't love that feeling when Trader wants to cheat Customer.
I'm waiting when they will remove some more content from game and make Destiny2 more shorter and no places to go.
