Exotic "calibration"?

Hi, new to Destiny here. Is it really supposed to take this long to unlock the catalyst for the exotic bow from Season 20? It needs 200 points, and you get 4 per normal strike. They take about 15 minutes and I need to do 50... Bungie really expects 10-15 hours of straight playlist grinding just to unlock 1 thing? The whole game is like this?

I usually doesn't bother with Catalysts, because many of them are super grindy.

Looking through my quests in the Director, it's like every single thing is a progress bar you fill by grinding mundane ♥♥♥♥ all over the place. Grind this progress bar by grinding these 3 random tasks in order to unlock step 5 of the quest which is just another series of grinding random things somewhere.

This game was designed for hamsters.

That's the fast way(season pass boost), normally you only get one progress point, it's not that bad either, you level it passively, you don't even have to have the weapon in your inventory, and then it goes on, in the next step you have to do several hundred kills with the bow

it took me several months to get the catalyst for eriana's vow :)

Realistically its something you do as you do everything else in the game for example while you're grinding the new seasonal activity each week for either its quests/challenges and gear you're making progress on other stuff in the background.

You're new and catching up on a lot of old filler, specific content such as season or expansion quests are usually more structured and specific.

If I remember correctly this has been mentioned by Bungie being a specific pain point they're looking into (don't know if it was this season or next)

Long story short

Exotics had a catalyst progression booster tied to the season pass of that particular season. Obviously those seasons are over and those boosts no longer apply (like this season is the verglas curve)

Like I said, I don't know if it's this season, or next, but Bungie stated that any "exotic catalyst boosts" that you get in the season pass will now be exotic agnostic (meaning they'll apply to all exotic catalysts) unless they specify otherwise

Afaik season pass booster works for any exotic since at least Lightfall and now counts the seasonal activity.

moon altars. if you find the right spot you're swarmed by trash mobs by the hundreds. i did the sweet business catalyst in 1 sitting, the stasis bow's in 2.

You're not gonna be happy to find out that after you do all that stuff and get the catalyst you still need to kill like 700 more things with it to actually activate it.

You're not gonna be happy to find out that after you do all that stuff and get the catalyst you still need to kill like 700 more things with it to actually activate it.

Yeah, my eyes have been opened - uninstalled. This kind of endless mindless grinding is not my idea of fun.

I mean it's not really grindy unless you make it that way. If you like the weapon you'll already be using it and it will just unlock naturally.

That's nothing. Back when Eriana's Vow came out, you needed 400 points, and there was no pass boost after the season ended. If you tried this quest from Season 9 up until Lightfall (season 20) then you needed 400 playlist activities just to get the catalyst, and the only way to boost it at the time was playing Gambit Prime (which merely doubled the rate, and Prime got removed in Beyond Light which was season 12)

With my rng I can get about 2 catalysts every 1-10 strikes
