Why would you remove all the old content.
I started playing this game recently and realized that all of the old content was removed. I don't see a point to playing this game in 2023 as a new player if i can't have a opportunity to play the released on launch content, all the way up to the current content. I don't want 3 dialogue lines from my ghost about how cool Cayde-6 was. I want to play through those moments like other players did. I tried to find a way to pay for these experiences thinking that maybe it was in a Bundle DLC pack or something but the realization that i can't play the content from red war, or any of the other stories up to im pretty sure forsaken has killed my enthusiasm to play this game.

One of the many reasons Destiny 2 has one of the worst new player experiences as a live service game.

Maybe you should have played it then and not waited.

The new player experience is vastly better than it was at launch.

Right, Because "Maybe don't wait to play the game" is totally a justifiable reason to remove the content for a game that people have paid for.

I played Destiny 1 throughout it's entire life cycle and then played D2 at launch. I stopped playing D2 because the state of vanilla was so bland and boring. Recently just came back to it full time and it's genuinely the worst new/returning player experience I've ever seen in a live service game.

I really enjoyed D1... Was looking forward to continuing where D1 left off... Now, not only can I not. But, I have to watch tons of gamer created videos to figure out how to actually play properly. I'm a fast learner, but this is ridiculous. I cant even organize my vault by type, whether it be type of weapon, kinetic or energy type, class. While I've still managed to have fun playing the game, when teamed up with people in any type of group I can see I am still lacking a ton of knowledge that I've been left to seek via youtube and reddit... I cant recall the last time I've spent so much time not playing a game because I had to spend so much time learning how to play the game. I thought spending money on expansions would help. So far, its only left me more confused and with more things I have to learn.

What ever. In Red war you were just tossed in. Because the complaints about new player experience, and there were many, they added the tutorial that evolved to what we have now. It explains everything about how to play the game. That is what new player experience should be, learning how things work.

The ONLY reason anyone complains about the old content is because someone told them or the entire post was just an excuse to complain. The content is not needed, the story we are on started with Shadowkeep. You don't need anything before that to understand what is going on now.

No one I know wanted the content removed. I would never play it again because I never delete characters but it would have been nice to to keep it as it was, free to play content. Given the choice, I would prefer what they did, I didn't want a Destiny 3 with the vault somehow destroyed and start over again.

Not only did Bungie vault the first two years of content but there's also seasonal story content that goes away when the next season starts. I was so lost when I finished Witch Queen and moved onto Lightfall because there's zero explanation as to how the Lightfall campaign starts. You're just suddenly thrusted into a story that started months ago with no way to play through that story.

In vanilla when you made a new character you started off as level 1 and were given direction as to what order you complete content. Now when you make a new character you start off at power level 1600 and are given zero direction as to how to complete content in chronological order. Modern Destiny 2 is an absolute mess of content for new players to sort through.

I'm going to have to hard disagree with that one, Red War was so much more of a natural introduction into the game and eases you into it with Homecoming and Exodus setting up the stakes and how you're important and then all the gentle adventuring into the EDZ to discover your new abilities and how to explore the world. I will say the new light start is much quicker to jump start people into the game but at the same time it could be too much of a shock to just toss players into it to hope they figure everything out on their own and then even if they do then they're forced into story missions or dares of eternity out of no where and are lost again.

Exactly. Not only do not have access to play the complete story start to finish, i don't even know what im doing, why im doing it, or if im doing it right.

In an ideal scenario Bungie would have added all the D1 content to D2 so players could actually experience the whole story without feeling lost.

The content was removed years ago already. Also whats with all these people that think Red War was some kind of awesome campaign? It was boring af. Now I see people missing the other planets and especially the secret missions as those were good but really, red war campaign? That's what you're upset about, weird.

I didn't say it was great, just that the introduction to the game was better imo but the campaign was definitely cinematic.

To each their own, I was lost when I started on BNet. It's embarrassing how long it took me to figure out what to do. I guess playing with others would maybe have helped, but I was mostly alone. New Light as it is now (I ran through it last month) holds your hand and explains it all fairly well. New Light is a bit long, but people just kept complaining that new players would not understand, so they did what they thought was right and added to the thing, Some of the pointers back then would pop up for a couple seconds and be gone, leaving thing thinking, huh, what?
