Empty weapon switch disallow button

Quake has had this ♥♥♥♥ since 1999, why is there no option or button to disable or disallow empty weapon switching. i dont want to swap to my empty GL or empty power weapon mid crucible gun fight.

I think OP is mad that they tried switching to a weapon that was out of ammo.

im not sayinga forced swap, its when you scroll through your weapons to flick through to go from primary to secondary and it swaps out to your power weapon. that shouldnt even be a possibility because you just pull out an empty weapon.

You use scroll wheel? I just manually switch to it via keybinds. The fact that you use scroll wheel explains a lot. I would never recommend ever using that for weapon swapping in any Video Game. Also, sorry for misinterpreting the issue. Having to read hundreds of forums from people who refuse to learn basic game mechanics takes a toll on your sanity.

no worries, i was just saying that quake and TF2, games that are easily 10-20 years old and running on engines far more dated than that have the option to just disallow empty swapping. i understand the tactical utility of sword peeking and other stuff like that, but its just aggravating. plus ive been using scrollswapping for years just due to growing playing Q1-3 that way. never had an issue with swapping in those games because of that option.

Only fix I have that is legal and doesn't violate the ToS is to learn manual switching.

honestly it should have a no equiping power weapon thing in crucible but not for that reason

mostly for the 3rd person peaking

It's almost as if the 1, 2, 3, keys are meant to do something? Hmmmm primary, secondary, and heavy? Nah, can't be it!

You could solve this issue by not using the scroll wheel to switch through "available" weapons and instead learn the hotkeys to switch specifically to your kinetic, energy, or heavy.

Get used to using 1, 2 and 3 on the keyboard, 1 is kinetic weapon, 2 is energy weapon, and 3 is power weapon. Not only will it avoid the problem but it also gives you the quick precision you need in a pinch instead of hoping that scroll wheel works.

I know what op is talking about. Its because of routine that you make that mistake. I play hc and gl and playstyle is to shot gl and quickly swap to hc to finish the target. Sometimes when you shot gl and push the button to detonate the granade after relase after bouncing it of a wall etc. when its on target you than want to swap to hc but game automaticly does that when you are out of ammo and you end up switching for empty gl and loose the trade. Its rare but its annoying and its muscle memory reflex to do that. It happens only if you push to detonate because the second you relase to detonate game autoswaps for hc and you instinctivly want to also swap and it ends swaping back on empty gl. Im using one button swap for kinetic and energy.
