Weird FPS drop overnight
Turned my PC off and went to bed, when I played the next day my FPS took a dive to the mid 40s. I was playing on Savathuns Throne World at around 90fps average until the day after.

i7-7700k and gtx 1080. While I know my hardware is dated it's still very odd for it to perform extremely reasonable one day and then the next day the game runs like ass.

Any suggestions?

if its fine in other things, its just you and your connection to d2. hardware isnt outdated for a game engine this old.

Windows or driver updates probably, even if the software themselves is fine they might have defaulted or changed some random setting somewhere and taking up extra power.

Could also be as simple as being time to clean out your pc or maybe you picked up a crypto miner some where, is everything else the same such as power usage or cpu/gpu temperatures or does it seem to be working harder now and less efficiently.

Recently I ran into a problem overnight where the computer fans were going full speed for no apparent reason and I opened it up and literally everything was covered in soot (don't ask, nothing bad happened) and I blew it all out with an air compressor and it was as good as new.

Check that your in game resolution hasn't changed.

I remember installing nvidia geforce experience for the first time and letting it optimise my games. When I launched destiny, fps was a lot lower. I didn't realise at the time GE had enabled dsr in the nvidia control panel and set my in game resolution from 2560 x 1440p (native) to 4k resulting in a major hit to performance.
