For the first half of the Ship just take all the enemies on the sides out before getting on the ship and you can scale the walls to get to the Purple Orbs without having to deal with the Lucent Hive. For the 2nd half get off the ship and just chill on the bridges and take it slow, once the ship gets to the end it spawns a portal for you to get back onto it.
and wow darkness zones? its almost like those exist in almost all activities

I'm going to assume they mean that the boat section is just slow and the darkness zone is the slow walk through the forest.
