You can get a lot of decent rolls on guns like midnight coupe, lunas howl or hammerhead from just playing Onslaught, better Gambit mode but only PVE , No pvp involved.
Recently they brought a variant of prison of elders into the game from D1, its got modifiers and twists to it that are somewhat more challenging than the old one , now called Tomb of elders
Dungeons are worth running for loot , the only random roll non craftable weapons that drop are in there, raids have weapons that can be crafted but you need to grind a lot to be able to craft them .
Crucible is still over run with cheaters and try hards when the weapons are right for grinding
Gambit is still gambit , no updates on it or maps
Strikes or Vanguard Ops are still strikes , no new strike specifics for loot
Exotics are more common than they have ever been , you can get a drop just by playing nightfalls , onslaught, and running strikes
Light level has been at the same cap for a bit and there's multiple ways to jump your light up now , not just pinnacles , there's more powerful and pinnacle drops now as well . i recently jumped into PC gaming and decided to do a fresh account with the recent Sales they had going on , so i am going through Shadowkeep, beyond light, Witch Queen, Lightfall and the final shape on a fresh account. its intimidating but refreshing to see a empty vault and have something to grind for again.
Im a casual player , have a job outside of the game and a family , i play a lot on my days off and on my work days i play for a few hours , on console doing this i was able to get exotic weapons from new dungeon , had majority of the exotics from raids and i have decided to push that aside to do it again on PC, its worth it but its about what you put into it.
I've come back and beat the new story stuff, got the prism class, unlocked many of the sub items for it, and had the fortune to play some older dungeon content like into the deep to get that set of cosmetic armor.... iwas doing alot of iron banner too and got a bunch of that, i recommend some iron banner, because you get crucible engrams and iron banner... lots of loot to dismantle!
it hasn't been so bad being back.... just as always kind lose interest... mmo's right?
how about the original recluse and mountaintop guns? can i use them just like any other new gun after the sunset?
are there enough rewards you can earn without paying for the BP or rummaging the Eververse?
and lastly, one of my fave PvEvP is gambit. how is it compared to before?
But they did not bring back vaulted content and don't plan to as far as I know.
As for the gambit, it's consistently rotting at the bottom of the ocean. The developers have no plans to develop this mode except for a few balance patches and adding one new weapon once a season.
Whisper of the worm and Zero Hour were brought back before The Final Shape launched but that's a bout it in terms of vaulted content. There were talks on stream by Bungie where they discussed remixing old seasonal content on a rotation but it hasn't been mentioned since and I doubt it will be coming any time soon (if at all).
Additionally, the content is mechanically great, however, a lot of the new ♥♥♥♥ has been busted to hell and back in terms of bugs and ♥♥♥♥ not working properly. Currently, the seasonal gimmick with the tonics that grant buffs and drops isn't working as intended in a few cases and some people have lost the ability to make the tonics at all.
PVP wise they are putting a lot of effort in to balancing and reworking competitive and trials, however, this will not plug the black hole left by the security team's absence. There are a lot of cheaters and not many people to deal with them on Bungie's side since that team was let go almost completely.
So what you're saying is, the game is good in spite of its "live service" nature, not because of it. Seen that many times, where the ability to make a fun, polished game does not mean that vision can be maintained through years or decades of updates.
Its more of a debt that Bungie's been paying off ever since selling off to Microsoft and buying themselves back. The developers are some of the best in the industry and have both the awareness and the desire to fix long standing issues for the players, however, leadership (read the studio executives) are making the studio appear to be a joke.
woah no, strongly disagree here. Public events are fun and have purpose, the persistent world gets decent use, matchmaking has enough modes and those modes are challenging enough, end-game challenges (activities which require manual party formation) are some of the most compelling fps pve gameplay I have tried, and they force communication, which gets people on the mic, and they usually aren't sweaty in a negative or hostile sense. The only toxicity is some pretty dramatic gatekeeping (they can see your gear and an in-game party finder for forming said manual parties uses an "application" system)
it's all very un-intuitive and overwhelming for a new player, the single player sections are long, mandatory slogs of linear gameplay requiring constant mode switching and menu navigation for kinda bland narratives that would be ok if they werent delivered so slowly.
It's the fact that this game drags you out of the fun multiplayer with people emoting and talking and playing dress up that makes it a slog.
Pretty large player base still so check it out tbh
