Returning player with new player to Destiny - The difficulty feels so over-tuned we quit after 2 strikes
First impressions are everything and Bungie Ya blew it.

Frantic non-stop spam was such an un-fun situation she wanted to go back to her old game and I'm disgusted with what happened to one of the most FORMER casual user-friendly games out there. Death after death barely chipping away at twitchy mobs strafing constantly sucked all the fun out of checking out what's new.

Did your Friend do the single-player overworld content? If they took the time to get more familiar with the game they might have had more fun.

Destiny was never casual/user-friendly.

Yes they actually did several of the timeline missions because there's a minimum requirement before jumping into vanguard strikes now. I thought it might be LL but it boosted that for us also, and the 3rd guy pug was also getting bodied constantly. After the 20th or so death from constant spam it was so un-fun she wanted to stop and gladly agreed.

edit: to be fair the one thing we had not done yet was go get our artifacts. If they make that much of a difference for normal strikes now that's nuts. I don't remember them being useful for much besides nightfall/gms.

actually, bungie tried to make the game more casual during red war by deleting random rolls, any build system, etc, and the game almost died back then because of it

If you're getting melted in regular strikes something is VERY very wrong with your setup

personally Bungie uses -1 brain power when designing enemies. Shadow legion and Scorn being the most brain dead designs for enemies I've ever seen. Bungie really has a bad habit of making enemies un-fun to deal with rather than challenging. Current Nightfall strike is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ horrendous solely because of Shadow legion's design. You can't even hide anywhere to recover because of Threshers hovering over and blasting you with mile wide AoE projectiles. Personally you two should keep at it and take your time, it may be a bit over tuned but there's ways to overcome it with cheese. And in D2, cheese builds rule.

I came back after finding a discount for Final Shape and discovered some new mechanics that are simply a pain in the arse. Waiting 15 seconds on a spot, press b to charge up, shoot particular enemies: do it again. What a chore that is.

Is that throughout the entire campaign?

The spots are only there for people not using prismatic, if you're using prismatic then shot the pink guys a little to charge transcendence and use it to break their shields,

I'm thinking they got loaded in the middle of a defiance battleground, those blind well sections suck for everyone. Or they went into a nightfall unprepared.

So as usual, this isn't made clear in game, they just expect you to read stuff or know already.

Thanks.

Time line missions aren't much, did they skip the tutorial and just think either they'll figure it out or you'll guide them because they did up the strike difficulty so they're not brainless now but it shouldn't be a gauntlet like you describe, go back and let tthem explore the EDZ and do public events and all the lost sectors there to get a feeling for everything.

There's a forced tutorial with very clear voice lines about it that you can't skip without doing it. They're not exactly asking you to find an unmarked specific enemy hiding in a corner to grab a buff and then charge it with enemy kills and then find the unmarked hole to dunk it in.

Bad game design is when the enemy shoots at me and I die

It's made clear because the enemies glow with the EXACT same color scheme as the prismatic subclass. Shooting enemy shields with the same color as a given ability has been in the game since its inception. Not to mention, when playing the first mission, IT DOES TELL YOU. THERE IS A POP-UP THAT EXPLAINS TRANSCENDENCE.

Wait on pad for 15 seconds. That was the extent of my problem solving. The rest expects you to read stuff beforehand. If you don't, or forget or don't understand the concept in the first place, you tend to ask these questions.
