Xur currency change sucks....
I have been playing Destiny 2 since beta over on Battle.net which was also the only time this game had proper Anti Alaising, but I have always been able to purchase anything I wanted from Xur since we got the currency from EVERYTHING.
Now with the change to strange coins I am finding no way to buy anything outside of doing content that I have zero interest in. I have ran strikes, dungeons and seasonal content but the only strange coins I have are ones I had from before the expansion and have yet to get any more from anything else.

I literally told you on page 1 what to do to get coins and you were too busy insulting others and myself to read it.

Go. Do. Ritual. Activities.

Gambit. Crucible. Vanguard playlists. Onslaught. Nightfalls. GM nightfalls.

Fact is, Legendary Shards needed to go. The economy of vendors had to be balanced around them, but long time players had tens to hundreds of thousand stockpiled, so vendor prices went up, which meant new players had to grind more just to catch up.
So this leaves us with Glimmer as a vendor currency, which was already used extensively. But oh wait, Xur used Strange Coins in D1, and through Dares we have them back, why not add them back? Sounds like a logical conclusion to me. And they drop quite generously, as others have already pointed out.
generously? They drop like 3-4 per strike, which tell you to do 10 strikes at minimum to buy something

You literally get them everytime you do a strike or crucible match, I just don't know if this community can get any more stupid.

The buff from Xur gives you more Coin per stack of it, stacks up to 3 times. So up to 7 Coins for a single Strike, which takes 10-15 minutes. Plus you get about 16 Coins for a single Nightfall.

Strange coins were a thing in vanilla destiny, it’s the original currency used with xur. I think you used to only get strange coins from raids or gm’s but now I get them from everything and am capped. I love when it seems like people play a game just so they can complain about struggles they make themselves.

Fyi he only sells world drop exotics so if you got everything from year 1 and 2 then you most likely won't get new stuff from him, you'll need to focus engrams at Rahool.

On the topic of the catalysts though, while it is awesome to see the option of getting a catalyst that appears at Xur that you're missing, that is a new option that requires a new acquisition method so its hardly fair to compare it with buying the same old junk with glimmer and legendary shards.

Actually it is even way more clear why there is no issue with Xur this way!

You see all those catalysts dropped exactly where before? and stil do by the way! You guessed it they drop from ritual activitys not in the normal world.

The benefit of Xur is that you do not need to grind ritual activitys in hope of getting them in the end but you can exchange your coins for specific ones each week.

Some catalysts took me years to get my hands on like Sunshots catalyst which was my first ever exotic weapon but I just got the catalyst 3 months before and while I have played crucible for ages I stil have not all possible catalysts dropped so why should Xur grant you the catalysts you only got from ritual activitys before now for not doing ritual activitys?

I agree if you say the pathfinder system is a pain in the ass for forcing you to do all kinds of ritual activitys to obtain the weekly rewards which beforehand you could actually obtain the vanguard weekly by only doing free for all bountys but for Xur the only thing he offered before was a few legendarys from different saisons.

By the way Xur was allways tied to ritual activitys and legendary shards were removed because they lost the purpose of you having to actually do something in order to gain benefits from Xur. In how he is done now it would actually suck to see legendary shards as the currency to gain standing with him. Some people had 100K+ legendary shards and even I as a casual player found it extremly easy to obtain 1K to 2K shards a week.

I also do not see why you skip ritual activitys entirely if you are PVE focused just do strikes you can often even wander off and do pathfinder objectives in a lost sector while the other 2 players rush forward to the boss encounter so you only participate in this most of the time allowing you for maximum benefit from them and they are not harder in contrary often easier than campaign missions as well or even some pve events. Also Onslaught also counts as ritual activity now so you can just play this mode too if you want granting you not only strange coins but also weekly gear from the completion of waves. (the strike objectives from pathfinder are also included here so you can get them done there if you want) By the way even if you suck at pvp both gambit and crucible grant strange coins even if you loose the games but also highly benefits a win.

This was changed in 8.0.0.5 last Tuesday.

You do not need to do anything but Vanguard or Crucible/Gambit to finish Pathfinder now.

If you're somehow limiting yourself to "PvE only!", you can finish Pathfinder and get your Engram.

The fact remains that I did some of those as I have said several times but never got any coins from it so it's not that simple.
I really don't even care anymore, so many dumb ass changes with this xpack that I'm just gonna uninstall this PoS and be done with it.
Xur used to be for players that missed exotics.

Now its just... useless.. It all seems year 1/2 exotics anyway.

Brother, as you've been told multiple times, queueing for a strike directly doesn't count.

It has to be from the playlist. So go do Destinations, click one of the three buttons at the top, and pick something from there.

And what is the problem? You're going to be doing at least 21 strikes throughout the weekend anyway to get the exotic cipher.
