The final shape is defined as "that which is left when all that can be removed has been removed", if there's something left to fight then the final shape hasn't been achieved and as such can't provide a defence against whatever is left to fight.

That would be the worst "plot twist" mostly because it has already happened... That was the Hive's whole deal and we know now that the entirety of the Hive was built on a lie which is most likely where the overall story is headed next with Savathun and Xivu Arath dealing with the fallout of the witness being dealt with and the sword logic being broken since the Witch Queen revelations that neither have had time to deal with.

Do you think the Witness and Traveler are from our galaxy? The hive have been around for billions of years and the Witness before that while the Fallen came over within hundreds of years and the Cabal make it sound like it was only a few years ago and was a simple sunday drive over to Sol so I'm under the implication that the Hive and all of the Witness stuff is universal scale because sitting around in the same galaxy waiting for civilizations to develop does not sound like something the hive or witness would do.

Even the Fallen's home of Riis was probably somewhere else such as the Andromeda galaxy because the "Long Drift" was such a major part of their history when they were floating out in empty space following the traveler and drastically changed their society.

I don't doubt their could be another big threat but I just don't think the Witness is "preparing us" for something. The only thing keeping the vex "in line" is paracasuality and with the Witness out of the picture the Vex could grow bold again especially after the Witness announcing itself in Shadowkeep is what sent the Vex "to sleep" or made them hopeless in the first place and conveniently the Vex are the next season/episode releasing after the raid where we're finally dealing with either the witness or whatever final threat there is from the witness.
