I can't even spend the 500,000 cap what do you need 1 million for?

We can carry 999,999 legendary shards, and in the old economy, a purchase of 25 legendary shards usually came with a cost of around 5,000 glimmer. Glimmer is roughly 200x less valuable than legendary shards, therefore we should either see glimmer prices slashed by 99.5% or allow us to hold up to 200,000,000 glimmer to allow the max currency cap to remain the same. So far, glimmer prices have only been reduced by 50-75%, and many have not been changed, which makes us much poorer overall compared to the max stockpile. Glimmer is also much scarcer and harder to focus farm than legendary shards, and the current cap is insufficient for large focusing sessions, since you can only focus around 150 purchases at 3k glimmer each. If focusing a specific weapon each time, that allows the focusing of ~650 engrams, compared to our total cap of 700 engrams across all 4 seasonal vendors + the 3 tower vendors. Glimmer sucks

With shards going away

Glimmer will become one of the most important currencies in the game and having Phantasmal Fragments in your Inventory is a great way to artificially hold more than the Glimmer cap.

- 1 Phantasmal Fragment – 10 Legendary Shards (From Moon / Lectern of Enchantment)

- 10 Phantasmal Fragments can be traded for 10,000 Glimmer (From Rahool)

- 10,000 Glimmer – 10 Legendary Shards (From Rahool)

- 10 Raid Banners – 30 Legendary Shards (From Hawthorne)

- Material exchange: Enhancement Cores, Ascendant Alloys, Ascendant Shards, Prisms (From Rahool)

- Sometimes Banshee-44, the Gunsmith, will sell a weapon that is Masterworked to Tier 5 or higher. When this happens, buy as many as you can and dismantle them. (From Banshee-44)

So to be clear you're comparing a currency with a cap designed to promote players to use it and farm it with a currency that can't be farmed but rather naturally gained over time without an effective cap? Glimmer is NOT legendary shards and if it had to be compared then it would be like enhancement prisms, ascendant shards/alloys, or exotic cipher etc. The cap was designed in the first place to push people to always needing it and not being able to just stockpile it endlessly over time and the perfect example of this is how legendary shards effectively don't have a cap and they just pile up more than you can use them and they become worthless to the "rich" and scarce to the "poor" unlike glimmer which is always valuable but accessible.

Technically not true, you get glimmer back when dismantling the gear you get also focusing as you get the engrams can avoid this issue, you get glimmer from everything now so if you're sitting at max glimmer while you're farming engrams then that is on you instead of using the glimmer as you get it with the engrams.

Also if you have hundreds of engrams just sitting around then clearly you either don't need them or don't care about whether you already have what you want or just can't be bothered to focus them.
