TFS writing is awful:

Bungie haven't been doing a good job in the writing department since Forsaken, but even so, it was never this bad (until Lightfall).

However, the entirety of The Final Shape just felt like a group therapy session. Hardly any story, no decent dialogue, no decent worldbuilding.

All we got was a series of soppy dialogues that turned every existing character into a sloppy puddle of 'feelings'. Zavala did a 180 on his character, Mara is a completely different person now and they justify it with an "I've changed" - she's no longer intelligent, cunning or competent. She just seems to bumble about, talk about how much she cares about Crow and what a dynamic shift that has been since her old 'guardians are abominations' and her absolute venom towards the Vanguard for murdering him and then him being turned into a caricature puppet by the Traveller.

All of the shifts and changes in recent years have just turned every character into some singular theme, and they spend 90% of this expansion just confiding in each other all their woes and troubles and feelings, and offering bad pep talks like some office manager that was recently HR trained to encourage his employees.

This campaign has been absolutely drole. Everyone is all buddy and friendly with hardly any justification, and all nuance and personality seems mostly driven from the characters. Bungie seem to think that introducing 'self-doubt' equals depth and complexity, and so that's the only negativity we see from these characters.

Feels like they wanted the DLC to be emotional, so threw in a bunch of "oh woe" moments that utterly lacked impact.

Gosh darn people, I know Bungie have lost most of their good writers over the years (particularly Dickinson and Schleiff, although Schleiff did make a return as GD).

This is just a rant though. A vent. I used to play Destiny for the story, but it's so garbage now.

D2 got "normie"-ficated, as me and my friends call this.

Almost no new lore about non-humanlike races (the hive the cabal and the elixni), which is not "We're humanity's friends now uwu". Factions kinda miss their uniqueness and their own interests, not related to the Vanguard's ones.

The Witness being so humanlike saying things like a 14 yo edgy teenager. It's just not scary nor misterious.

Taking characters' conflicts and negative qualities away from them and makin' them ""softer"". Overall - picking a character's most well known trait and reducing their whole personality to it (as mentioned with Mara)

I think Lightfall had this the worst, TFS feels better (but honestly after LF _anything_ feels better)

After the Witness has been killed I hope they do some exploration outside the Sol system and actually discover new stuff. Maybe have Humanity actually build something? Maybe update the assortment of Enemies for us to shoot? You could always bring back Seeva for that as well.

That would have been cool 5 years ago when the Darkness was some lovecraftian Horror, And Humanity was rightfully fighting the Fallen for control of Earth.

Zavala didn't do a 180, his feelings against the Traveler have been building since Witch Queen.

"Our enemy was dead and then the Traveler brought them back?"

Being confronted by his past when the Light didn't bring back his "son" that was killed by Fallen and led to loss of his lover.

Losing Amanda which basically became a daughter to him and again the Traveler still remaining silent.

His feelings just finally manifested front and center in the Final Shape as we're trying to save the Traveler but it continues to remain silent and not helping while the darkness tempts Zavala with the answers that the Traveler refuses to give.
