What's a good 1st slot Auto Rifle?
Outside of my crafted Ammit in my second slot, I've been running Tigerspite and occasionally Krait, but I feel like they're both pretty lackluster, what's a good Auto Rifle to use?

This is destiny 2, we don't have primary and secondary slots. Top is kinetic which also includes strand and stasis and middle slot is energy which includes solar, arc, and void. Primary or special is delineated by the type of ammo they use for example all auto rifles no matter the slot or element are primary weapons that use infinite basic ammo while any shotguns for example uses limited green "special" ammo and be either kinetic or energy slot depending on the element.

Kinetic slot is pretty empty unless you want strand or stasis and he's already complaining. Let's be honest here: the OP shouldn't be running 2 primaries.

I'm not running 2 Auto Rifles, I'm saying that I usually use my Ammit as it's the better one I have.

the main problem is that auto rifles suck in pve, like pretty much all legendary primaries. if u need to run one go with rufus fury, but i would honestly just run sunshot or trinity if u want a primary and be done with it lol

The summoner with onslaught or incandescent does not suck in PVE

Sorry, would these be good for PvE? I primarily play PvE, but will dabble in crucible stuff if need be, but it isn't a major focus or priority for me.
I'd go quicksilver storm it's a exotic ar with a side of grenade launcher

So I got the Breakneck from Gambit, it doesn't feel all that good to be honest, I don't have a god roll on it, but overall doesn't feel all that good to use, not sure about it, I'll play around some more with it, see how it feels after some time.

Perpetualis with the hatchling perk can be pretty nice at the mid range difficulty PvE stuff
Last Breathe, False Promises or Scathelocke all three are my favorite since 2021.

Yeah Breakneck feels too sluggish for my liking. You guys have given some good suggestions, I just need to weigh the pros and cons and find a good one for me.

Sluggish like low RPM? If so it's a 450 and that means Ammit AR-2 probably won't work for you either.

There's 600 and 720 rpm auto rifles as well which will hit softer per shot but fire faster and may feel more responsive for you. Things like Krait (purchasable from Banshee I think), Refus' Fury, Perpetualis, Coronarch-22 (purchasable usually)

Unfortunately in terms of finding how to get things this chart won't help much but light.gg auto rifles by rate of fire[www.light.gg] but you can start there and maybe look at what you already have and aren't considering.

Another thing to keep in mind in terms of how guns feel is: they will feel "best" when they're part of a larger "build." An example is the Ammit AR-2 it's a heavily used solar crafted 450 auto rifle right now which people love to use for spreading solar effects and enjoying the synergy from having a decent solar gun paired with their build's fragments/etc.

Good luck man

Also it looks like this week the exotic mission up for farming is Vox Obscura which has a 720 auto rifle Sweet Sorrow that can drop. But that's arc and you may want to weigh if that will fit your style.

Maybe it's just my inner Marine or something, but my favorite non-heavy archetype is auto-rifles. Machine guns are the only one I like better. But anyway, for first slot, I have several I use that have served me well, depending on the type of situation I need:

  • Lodbrok-C for power. I use this in situations where I'm fighting tougher targets, usu. in Neomuna or Nightfalls. It's hard-hitting with the High-impact Frame, and my targets flinch a lot, disrupting their ability to give back the damage I send. It has a smaller magazine, but really good reload. With Kill Clip and Demolitionist, it feels like it was made for my Titan.
  • Old Sterling is my go-to, general-purpose rifle, esp. with Strand builds. I used the Scathelock previously, but with strand this one works well, and, despite the "lore" text, I think it's an attractive weapon, as well.
  • Seventh Seraph Carbine is ubiquitous and doesn't seem very common, not to mention it looks nothing like a real carbine, with a longer barrel than many D2 rifles. But personally I love it. Mine has Frenzy and Reconstruction matched with Seraph Rounds and Arrowhead Break, and I've gotten a lot of good use out of it. Rarely have to stop and reload, and recoil is almost non-existent. And with the mag perk, it's like Ricochet Rounds and Armor-Piercing Rounds combined.
  • Finally, if an exotic is called for, Quicksilver Storm is my favorite. With the Grenade Chaser perk, it's like having my old M4 (a *real* carbine) with the 203 attachment (M203 grenade launcher), which is very effective not only IRL but in-game. However, the Monte Carlo is also nice, esp. for melee builds.

A noteworthy rifle I haven't included is the Krait, for those who like Veist weapons. It's pretty fun, particularly at closer ranges. There are so many other cool ones I haven't included, but those are my current picks. Tigerspite is always nice, too, as you said. And I'd have to second (or third) Rufus' Fury, of course. But I like to be different, I guess.

Btw, I personally *love* the "self-rolled" Ammit, like you do, apparently. It's beautiful, esp. with Incandescent or Ambitious Assassin. Sheer beauty. Too bad it has to occupy the Energy slot. I wish they'd make a few stasis or strand weapons for 2nd slot, too. When I play either of those builds, the second slot always feels funny using solar or another aspect lol! xP
