The Witness used philosophy to metamorphose the species into worm gods with "Sword Logic".
Ahsa was a survivor that denied the Witness; Ahsa did not change into a worm god.

Ahsa is the origin of the hive gods. *edit* She must be a powerful and very old creature.
There is no present reason as to why a seemingly random "refugee/survivor" worm who fled the black fleet and her world's collapse by swimming along the ascendant realm's ley lines would know everything about the Witness and the Veil.
But I'm sure there will be some plot twist when they bring her back for a season in 2 years that explains that she was actually super important the whole time even though no one seemed to care about her until she came out of no where to help Sloane aka Bungie invented her for a seasonal story.
