Is this game worth playing if only F2P?

I just started playing this game and its fun so far. I like the gunplay and the abilities.

But I am wondering if this game is worth playing if I only plan to F2P. How "good" could my character be? Would it be viable in PVP? Would it be viable in the hardest raids?

Sure. That is after all what it's there for. So you can try it out and see if you like it.

This isn't a Pay-to-Win game, it is possible for you to be competitive in PvP, or even in high end PvE. Do note though, most (though not all) high end PvE is behind Paywalls. And do note that paying players will have a lot more toys available to them.

But anyone, even FTP players can reach max light level, and have access to gear that is at least comparable.

If you're going to play for a long time though, or if you want to see most of the story content, you will need to spend some money.

There is alot of content that you can play, but If i remember correctly Bungo never intended for it to be completely free to play. There are some things that will get on your nerves, for example if a strike from one of the DLCs is the weekly nightfall, you wont be able to do nightfalls until reset the next week (every tuesday). 2 of the 5 raids (which are the best activities in the game) are free. My personal favorite raid King's Fall is free so they aren't giving you the worst ones or anything. Gambit is completely free (although gambit is kind of hit and miss between players.) All pvp with the exception of trials of Osiris is free. Trials is for extreme pvp sweats and bungo locked it behind a paywall to stop cheaters from just creating new f2p accounts to cheat with. Some of the best weapons in the game are completely free. Most exotic weapons and armor are free and the ones that aren't synergize with subclasses that come from dlcs so you wouldn't get much use out of them anyway. I believe that the prophecy dungeon is free. all lost sectors are free, all patrols are free (if you even count those.) The new player experience can be unfortunately kind of confusing so don't hesitate to ask the community for help. Just don't ask the steam discussions as the players here, at least from what I've seen from the past few years, seem to be more negative. There are plenty of discords like Destiny2 LFG where you can find people to help you do any number of things in the game.

the free to play game will begin to loop very quickly as 80% of its content is locked behind dlc's.
you will also not be able to level past level 6 without lightfall dlc.

If you dont plan on ever spending money, dont waste your time with this game.

I would say no a lot of the fun content is paid for and the free track basically only has strikes, gambit, crucible and patrols and 1 dungeon and 1 raid being free iirc whereas the paid has multiple raids and dungeons and the majority of the games story is told in expansions and season story arcs which both have to be paid for. While you can do a lot of the content you have access to with F2P gear the truly good stuff is locked behind a paywall (bait and switch cata, strand titan, stasis hunter etc etc). I would classify it as a free demo and not free to play. All DLC is around 400$ if you do intend to pay and play.

no the f2p experience is severely limited and most if not all of the meta pve/p weapons are walled behind a pay2play pve activity. over 5k hours and id say even the pay walled content isnt worth your money or time.

A ton of meta pvp weapons are frequently gated behind season passes or buying individual dungeons. Or maybe even impossible to currently get.

It's also about as balanced as fallout 76's battle royale mode.
