What you're looking is the vanguard ops (strikes) playlist that features instances missions with 2 other randomly match made players.
Seasonal activities are also usually similar to strikes but require seasons to play them.
You really only get into team play in end game dungeons, raids, and nightfalls otherwise it's pretty much do what you want including support if you want buy there isn't really the tank and healer structure most of the time, everyone usually does dps.
Destiny 2 is first and foremost a shooter. I mean, all classes shoot with guns, therefore all classes are DPS. Yes, all classes have ways to help the team one way or another, warlocks can put a well that will heal and boost damage in a certain area, titans can put a bubble that will protect players inside of it, and hunters can make allies invisible or weaken enemies. But in the end it all comes down to the fact that this is a shooter, you have to shoot aliens, with guns.
Regarding the team roles I was not necessarily looking for the typical tank/dps/healer thing from MMOs but rather the class-based system like in Deep Rock Galactic where each player can DPS but also has some specific utility abilities.
