Is there any reason to worry about light level if I do not raid?
I only plan to play match made content. So strikes and PvP. I might do some open world stuff as well. Is there a minimum light level I should be shooting for?

If you don't care about end game (more than just the new raid) then no.

Your limiting yourself. Raids, dongeuns, high level nightfalls, etc is where the best part of the game is.

Most of the time I have between 20 and 45 minutes to play. I just do not have time to get a group together most of the time.

if im being honest, you would want to do pve content to get the weapons/armor used in pvp. Not that you need to but every season, there is usually a meta and "new weapons" from pve content like dungeons and raids may be better for pvp if you know what I mean

Aah. Well that sucks. Do what you do then and enjoy yourself! But yea you probably dont need to concern about power levels.

Then your fine at staying at or near the 1600 power level floor. I just mainly do the vanguard ops playlist, which is recommended 1600 power, but I am in the same boat as you, not much time to really do any high-level activities in this game, I just play to have fun being a space super soldier (titan) or to change it up, space wizard, or the hunter for more stealth gameplay. Haven't really purchased much DLC/or used my current as much apart from the story content which seeing how bad lightfall is, I'll probably avoid purchasing it, I seem to be able to play a random strike that looks like it is set on the new planet anyways.

Agree, there's a reason raids are completed by a very minuscule percentage of players

Actually, from experience, its the players you have with you that make it good or bad....not the content itself.

Just going by the content, its rather boring, predictable and needlessly challenging without any reward for completing said content.

I like a challenge, but the rewards need to match the challenge, otherwise, there is no point in doing it.

Honestly no. I just mostly play strikes and PVP. Most of my grind is just getting weapons or whatever

Yes, there is a reason. If you stay at the light level floor you'll find enemies in some zones to be Immune to your attacks.

So yes, you do want to improve your Light level. but that'll happen organically as you play. Just do whatever you normally do, but when you get an upgrade, use it.

Look for armor that's legendary and has at least 60 stat points, it'll be pretty rare with your play style, but you should still see the occasional higher stat piece.

Look for weapons with decent perks. If you don't know what's good, I'd suggest downloading the DIM app, which has a built in, curated wish list which you can use to evaluate your drops.

DIM can be found here: https://www.bungie.net/7/en/registration/apps

Once you've found some decent gear, buy some Upgrade Modules from Banshee-44 (in the Tower) and infuse them (with higher light gear) to keep them up to date. Even with your play, it's perfectly possible to reach the Powerful cap, and you'll find a lot of stuff becomes easier (and more activities are open to you as a result).
