FXAA is more hardware efficient but lower quality than SMAA which uses more GPU power. Try both and see what you like

I'm on 1440p and not sure if smaa is working at all. Can't tell if there's any difference vs having it off. FXAA works but there are still some jaggies noticeable.

FXAA - More jaggies, faster performance (Uglier)
SMAA - Less Jaggies, slower performance (Prettier)

If you are struggling with your FPS and mainting it, FXAA
if you are not struggling and you have extra frames to spare and still keep your experience smotth, SMAA

Smaa never worked for me in destiny 2 so I used fxaa. Alternatively if you have the power for it you could try increasing the render resolution.
