bungie got rid of all the legacy content
you are just throwing money at them for nothing
except forsaken you get 3 free exotics
but still thats not much
Beyond Light - previous DLC - gives you stasis, the first darkness subclass. It's not necessary but it's cool and nice to have. I would suggest buying deluxe Lightfall as a start and maybe if you want more variety - get Beyond light as well. As for campaign - Witch Queen is really good and features a lot of activities. But I would say it's a safe bet to wait for sale
I second this. Don't give Bungle any more money than you have to for content they will likely throw in the trash in a year or two. If you like what you are playing enough to pay top dollar for new content fine but do not pay full price for anything in Destiny that has been out for more than 3 months as you will be missing whatever has already been deleted.
If you know you like the game you could do that but you are paying the most money possible for the least amount of content. Are you playing with friends are are going to be spamming the latest Raid/Dungeon each week? If not, the cost/benefit of buying the latest expansion is probably not going to add up. Witch Queen is almost done and once Lightfall drops it will be obsolete for most current players chasing the META.
You can get a lot more to do by getting older expansions on sale if you just want to try the game out and see if it interests you. Just be warned that older content is more likely to disappear some time after Lightfall is finished to make room for the next expansions as has been the case in the past.
Bottom line - Wait for a sale for older content if you are just getting into the game and trying it out and have a lot of things to do from weapons to find, dungeons to explore, campaigns to experience, etc. Sales occur at least every 3-4 months on Steam.
If you only want to do the newest things with all your homies wait for Lightfall and start grinding.

They are not getting rid of Expansions anymore they said that awhile ago.
And yet every 3 months another season disappears which now accounts for a large portion of content. They are still trimming the fat you just don't notice how you are getting fleeced :)
