Which dlc is worth buying?
New player. Was wondering which expansions are worth buying. Are old exotics still relevant to this day? If I buy the base expansion, how much of the price will be reduced for the deluxe upgrade?

Latest one at the time. Meaning Witch Queen right now. Unless you're looking for specific exotics and or raids, the other DLC's are basically useless for progression.

Also, old exotics are DEFINITELY still relevant, exotics are placed in a tier according to people and their bias, but in reality it really depends on you as a player.

If you only get one, get the current one, Witch Queen is the current one until next year.

All of them. They're cheap while on sale. They're cheap on G¯2¯A. My favorite is Shadowkeep for the many quests and bounties, and also the weapon crafting. By far the best Destiny expansion ever released after Curse of Osiris. Made Forsaken look like overpriced DLC.

This is wrong in so many ways. I use many weapons from past dlc’s.

Here's the best way I can break all of the DLCs down. As of now Shadow Keep still has the best exoctics ( Because unlike the other 2 BOTH of its exotics are good). Xenophage while no longer the most meta weapon is an excellent choice for early and mid game content with its good damage, the fact it has splash damage, and a solid amount of amo. Deathbringer is also still a great choice for rocket launchers and is very newby friendly as you can sit behind cover and just launch projectiles above the enemy then manually detonate them and let the 6 autohoming projectiles do the rest.

Beyond Light offers an entire new class (Stasis), the best raid experience in game (DSC) and Lament which is a godly sword.

Witch Queen offers the best campaign. Its story is fun and its the first campaign to offer hard mode which gives double rewards but remains a true challenge all the way through. It also offers an excellent raid with great rewards, allows you to really take advantage of weapon crafting ( allows you to craft the perfect weapon for yourself) and Osteo Striga and Parasite both slap. However, Parasite requires select circumstances to truly shine.

Of the 3 I would get Witch Queen first. The current game is built around Witch Queen and the changes it brought. If you find Destiny fun and engaging and have decided this game is one you want to really get into I would then order Lightfall as its looking to be the one of the best expansions ever and is releasing in febuarary. This would be the smartest as destiny next year will be shaped around Lightfall. Including balancing for Strand (New element coming in the dlc) the raid gear that will be dropping plus god knows what else. Then if you are still having alot of fun get Beyond light and then Shadow.

Buying witch queen does not give you a discount on the deluxe upgrade, the deluxe upgrade itself is already a discounted upgrade because it requires witch queen.

Witch Queen - 40$(US) - expansion
Witch Queen Deluxe - 80$ - expansion + 4 seasons and 2 dungeons
Witch Queen Deluxe Upgrade - 40$ 4 seasons and 2 dungeons requires expansion

Legacy Collection includes forsaken pack, shadowkeep expansion, and beyond light expansion which are all still relevant, more info in this guide I made: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2787897465

Thank you everyone for the responses. I think I will be looking to purchase the legacy edition with the Witch Queen expansion. Do you guys think the deluxe edition of Witch Queen is worth its price or should I just stick with the base version?

That depends on you. The deluxe comes with all four season passes and two dungeons. Will you use the content of the past seasons, will you play the dungeons? The only way to get past season content is the deluxe, through getting the deluxe or the deluxe upgrade.

How is that statement wrong in somany ways. Just in what way do the old DLC's have to do with progression. Using a weapon ISN'T progression of your character, it's just earning a weapon..

None of them are really worth it, if considering value to gametime gained from a solo story experience. With destiny 2's progression, it always feels like the game is about to be remade and it's always waiting to get to the final stage of the game. If considering the pvp aspect of the game, it's never going to be any good as abilities are paywalled and by the nature of the game's design it splits the playerbase this way. The right way to play destiny 2 is to play it for free, enjoy what's on the table there, and not grind into dlc's that take an hour to finish.
