Same principle here. They quit so their kd don't get lower. And on the extreme end of the (kd abuse) spectrum you see high-skill stacks using broken ♥♥♥♥ together to boost their kd while also leaving if their kd doesn't go high, making pvp unenjoyable in BOTH SURVIVAL AND CONTROL because survival doesn't punish you enough for being a coward.
it's the latest update that brought quality of life changes and a nerf to opressor ( https://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/3974k2848172a2/upcoming-improvements-to-the-gta-online-experience ). Also, if you think the strat was death by cop then you haven't seen the worst!; guy would put a c4 under their feet so anytime you got close to killing them they'd commit suicide instead.
KD maniputors/abusers/farmers come in three types. Kids who leave the start of the game if their kd gets low, kids who leave mid game, and kids who leave at the end of the game (quickly press esc->change character).
if you play pvp regularly then keep an eye for those 3.0 you meet in your lobbies. Each time you die, check if you still have 6 teammates (you'll detect type 1 and type 2). Then, if he still there until the end of the game, check whether that 3.0 kda shows up in the scoreboard (type 3).
Unfortunately, most kd abusers are type 1 and type 2. Second worst case of a kd abuser was a 3.3 who had a 1.0 kd. Worst case was a 4.0 both in-game and in third-party websites who, despite his high kd, had a 30% winrate. You can check their real stats in third-party websites like crucible report and destinytracker.
ps: funny example caught on video at the 3:27 minute mark

as for doing kd manip i've never seen it but only heard about it done via iron banner which is why some people had 50 kda on their tracker. you're likely to see this type of player every 100+ matches (if even). also winrate is not a good thing to pair up against with someone with high kda. for example i have a 3.65 kda this season and a 4.6 in IB but my winrates fluctuate between 40-45%. if you've ever played as a solo you'd know trying to win matches is very hard especially when 5 of your teammates are 0.3 bots.
Besides, people who leave early can too get high kda outside of emblem trackers if that's what they're aiming for, since low kda in a low death match doesn't affect it too much.
I'm a solo too. 53% winrate s15, 49% s16, 67% s17 . I'd show that those examples I mentioned for comparison if it weren't bannable, so add me if you like. Also, I forgot to mention, it's not only kda, their rating at destinytracker are usually below 1000.
check your stats again, mayhem lover
okay
Of course the lone sweat doesn't want to carry the others.. at least not all the time. You can't blame them or the in game stats for this. This is 100% on Bungie because they decided to listen to pubstompers and 50 kill easy content chasing streamers/youtubers(obviously they'll get those types of lobbies more frequently compared to when the SBMM was active) and not the real player base.
These guys are going to quit even more because if rounds are more balanced, they will be less likely to reach high kds.
