I came back after 9 seasons gone, and I had to buy Beyond Light and Witch Queen *Deluxe* to get the current content. Lightfall doesn't come out until next year.

its so confusing what is needed to get all the content it makes me hesitant to come back at all :s why cant they just provide all the dlc with a updated price in 1 package like normal game publishers

Beyond Light gives you Stasis abilities. It's better than WQ. Adventure type quests continue unlike WQ which gives you busy work you can mostly do as free to play: loot chests, loot region chests, find a Lost Sector, do patrols. That's pretty much the same copout as Shadowkeep. Finished that main quest which involves mainly patrols, events pretty much bounty stuff you'd do anyway etc. to create armor to confront the final boss. Did that and still getting 'create armor' quests.
I'm free to play on another platform and already hit level 107. Bought the season pass and it's buggy with bounties not incrementing. Even Gamespot had problems with their map fragments bounty not incrementing.

thanks for your input! will have to think it over for a while. maybe wait till i see a good deal as its all a little too expensive. i mainly care about exploring and progressing, not so much about endgame gearscore grind

Witch Queen is the current expansion. If you're going to spend money, I'd suggest getting that and a current season pass.

If you have the Deluxe Edition of WQ, that'll give you access to the seasonal storylines and activities for the entire content year. We're currently in S18, but the seasonal activities all remain available until the end of S19 (which is 5ish to 8ish months away, depending on Bungie's schedule).

Shadowkeep and Beyond Light are legacy expansions. There's fun to be had with them, but no, they're not strictly necessary. I'd suggest waiting for a sale.

Lightfall is a pre-order, your call on that.

The bottom line is: How much are you going to play over the next 6 months? A lot? A little? If you're expecting to sink a fair amount of your entertainment hours into this game, then I'd say buying WQ (perhaps even the deluxe version) would be worth it. But if you're not going to play a lot then it becomes a lot less worth it, and maybe you just want to stick to what you already have and the FTP content.

i was thnking 100 to 200 hours maybe(over a month), thats usually how much i can stick to a single game. with f2p content you mean just the base game, or just expansions without this seasonpass/deluxe stuff?

I meant just the base game and whatever you already have.

If you're going to put in 100-200 hours ... mm... maybe consider buying Witch Queen and a Season Pass. If you're still having fun at the end of S18 maybe think about buying an S19 Season Pass too.

I probably wouldn't bother with Beyond Light or Shadowkeep.

That'll give you a new campaign to do, and a fair amount of activities. Savathûn's throne world is a pretty interesting place (in my opinion).

Also, here's Mez Koo's guide on what you can do without buying anything, might offer you some activities you hadn't thought of:

You came in here to the forums to post this... at the VERY top is a pinned post by the DEVS aptly titled "New Player Guide." While you may not be "new" you're certainly out of touch.

Go get 'em!

thanks Nakos and Pharaoh, you're right im very out of touch lol, will give that a read. usually new player guides only offer actual gameplay tips, didnt expect it to cover f2p/p2p comparisons too

It may be worth just re-downloading and playing some of the FTP content, granted it's not much really but at least then you can look and see what sort of stuff is in the game and if you enjoy playing it. They have completely re-vamped all the sub-classes and focusing a lot on actual builds now.
Campaign for WQ was pretty good as well especially on legend mode as it gave a challenge.
I'd also recommend joining a Destiny discord if you wanted to play with others but thats only if you get the itch to buy it, grind it and do end game stuff.

Beyond light and witch queen are what you need, lightfall is out next year, season of plunder if you want the seasonal stuff/battlepass etc, but yea it is all a bit confusing, not the best experience for new/returning players.

give it a try f2p and wait for a sale, this stuff goes on sale pretty often.
Everyone here has presented an incomplete list of what you can buy (yes the rabbit hole goes deeper).

If you want most content, then its
Witch Queen: the latest expansion, has a suprisingly good campaign
Legacy Pack: Includes the older expansions, such as shadowkeep and beyond light. You can buy them separate but this bundle is cheaper

If you want ALL content, then its
Witch Queen deluxe: This is WQ but with the years seasons and dungeons bundled with it. The seasons are all limited time and kinda unfun, and the dungeons are arguably overpriced.
Legacy Pack: same as above
30th Anniversary pack: contains a single dungeon & its loot for $30 usd, widely considered to be extremely overpriced.

No, not anymore. The bundle that included the 30th Anniversary pack has been removed.

Thanks for catching that. They still advertise it on the site so I assumed it was still up

i saw the legacy collection, and normally bundles are cheaper on steam yeah, even if you already own certain dlc, but with this game its the exact opposite, even after putting it in the cart its trying to charge me 59,99 euros for beyond light lol
