I'm not new, but confused how newer players can get into the stories
I attempted to invite a mate that loves to play games with a great story line, and lore ofcourse, but can't blame him when he has no idea what's happening. He can't play though Red War or Forsaken, he can't play through the old Seasonal Passes before Witch Queen.

If you dare say 'tEll hiM to WaTcH A 3hOur vIdEO OF loRe AnD sToRy TO cAtCH UP'
Don't even DARE putting out your thoughts. Noone should watch hours of lore and story from a YouTuber explaining it to understand the story.

For the most part, it'll end up being the current story beats that'll get people hooked. Most of the in game lore is a good starting place if they want to learn more without watching videos on it.
There's the Ishtar Collective, which has all the lore, from Destiny 1, to the current season, but it can be intimidating at first, since there's just so much to go through, with not all of it having major tie-ins to the overarching plot

Just watch mynameisbyf's videos, especially "Dynasty" for Witch Queen

tbh a 3 hour video that you can load up while ur studying / doing stuff is far better than the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ experience that was red war.

Like mynameisbyf does such a great job, it's insane Bungie hasn't hired him yet.

If you've seen his Dynasty movie, it pretty much sets up Witch Queen perfectly.

It's an ongoing story. You can't really expect that people can jump in at any point and become invested right away. The reason most people point to youtube videos as an introduction is because that's the fastest way to catch up to the story.

Obviously it would be better if the older seasonal content and campaigns were still in the game but even still that wouldn't catch people up with the first 3 years of destiny from D1. So even in the ideal situation you'd probably still need someone to explain to you the content behind the current story.

As I said, he wants to play through a story not be forced to watch a video to understand the concept or what's happening. You shouldn't need to watch from a third party app just to understand the actual games story.. Unless it's lore, to know MORE about the world and the story.

My main issue is, instead of being forced to watch third party videos. There should be the cinematics from the last seasons, that are able to be shown to the new player in an easy option. That alone will help teach them what had occured.

edit: Instead of forcing a player to watch a 3 hour video to understand everything in Destiny's story, it should just show the cinematics or even just a paragraph of each season that had passed.

The "story" is either a) gone or b) not playable in the first place. A lot of the stuff in the Dynasty video is from the "books of sorrow" lore stuff and not in either game at any point.

That's what I meant. Since they remove content, or create seasonal stories nowadays, they should atleast keep in the cinematics they've created for it. That alone would be great to know what had happened, or the main points.

I have started to doubt these "my friend tried to play but was confused because Red War is gone and quit playing" threads.

In order for someone to enjoy Witch Queen and it's story, there is no need to know anything that came before.

On top of that, all of that stuff was free to play for over a year, where were they then, certainly not interested in Destiny 2.

Well your "Friend" is in luck.

Nothing before Shadowkeep is even important or needed to understand the story the game currently exists in.

And what I just said is that the video I mentioned that you don't want to watch includes a ton of lore that was never playable. You could've played through everything but if you didn't get the lore then you wouldn't know more than the basics of we're the "good guys" and they're the "bad guys."

And pretty much that, Shadowkeep is a good starting point as it "introduces" "the darkness" and then beyond light plays into it more. The only real thing you're missing is that savathun took osiris and traded him for us to get rid of her worm parasite which is explained through a cut scene when you start witch queen. Think of Beyond Light as the start of Destiny 3 and Shadowkeep was a prelude.

If you doubt anyone saying 'my friend tried to play this but' posts then you either have little to no friends or have little to no conversations, I mean this is no possible insulting way in full honesty. It's not hard to believe that people have friends, infact humans are communicative and social creatures.

Thanks for the information. He just misses Red War, and Forsaken (something he stupidly missed out on). I can't blame him aswell, Destiny 2 to me is addicting but when someone says its fully repetitive and the system isnt fun, I agree with them. I'm just trying to get him into Witch Queen for the legendary campaign ;) Hopefully it'll finally hook him back in.

Destiny 2 isn't a game with a rich story anymore. It's a game with a rich *back*story.

True enough, I suppose. Can't wait to hear him mid game during a campaign or story going, 'What the hell is that supposed to be? How did that happen to him?'
'Why is Uldren Sov here, wasn't he the queens brother back in Destiny 1? Why is he good?'
