Is this game currently worth it for single player?
Assuming I'm not interested in PVP or raids (but I don't mind the occasional co-op), would it be worth a download? How's the single player content? I heard something about previous campaigns being unavailable or paid content only? Thanks in advance.

Hell no. Even in the first game Destiny has always been unnecessarily hostile towards single players for no reason, all the normal stuff can be brain dead and anything that actually challenges you and requires more than one player has matchmaking off.

It has indeed a very good and facinating Campaign. yes u can't play old content like the first dlc or the second or even the original campaign but it is still worth (and for free) so i play since Destiny 1 day 1 and still like it. give it a try and u will see c:

90% of the content has matchmaking, so you can "solo" things in the sense the you aren't in a premade group. But you can't go into those matchmade activities alone normally.

Yes. I played many seasons solo. Now have my own small clan. (I do own all the content..) Gather a few friends along the way and co-op. If you like shooting stuff, nice explosions and are happy to grind for loot then why not? Again, Destiny is about paid content, no way around that.

I disagree with Shadow426, I started this game as a solo player in August of 2021 and I've had quite a bit of fun. Now that I'm doing more end-game content (dungeons, Trials, raids, GM Nightfalls, etc) I need to make some D2 friends or use an LFG, but those activities aren't necessary to have a fun time in the game.
I also really enjoyed soloing the Witch Queen Legendary campaign, it was such a challenge but felt so dang good after beating it.

Raids are one of the best PVE content.
Assuming you are not into PVP, getting into the PVE is tedious and requires cash. That's why I could not get any of my friends to play with me. I have to explain that they have to spent cash for certain amount of DLCs, Dungeons and Season Pass. In the end they simply decide to go play Elden Ring.

The Free content currently is just a small demo compared to the actual PVE content.

Amazing Campaign, I have played the game since the day it came out. It has been amazing in most areas :)

I play solo and never raid or pvp (outside a few Gambits for rewards) and I have a great time.
I bounce jump float around and shoot ♥♥♥♥ up. Pretty scenery, cool gear, lots to collect.
If you are a completionist or have a big ego you will need to Clan up and do the big ones with them.
Otherwise, it's fine as a solo game. Hours of fun. Do it!

I play Destiny exclusively solo since the first one and to be honest, I really dislike D2 and don't recommend it to anyone who like play as single player. While the gameplay is addictive, the solo activities are just boring and repetitive. You just grind to level up but once you get the top level, there is just nothing worth to do except getting god rolls which I personally don't care at all since I only do pve. Also, the story is evolving every season so if you wasn't there to know important events, you'll just won't understand what is going on.

I concur with daveyboi and apocryphaibob. There's lots of content that works fine for a solo player.

The best way to find out, is download it and try it. There are people who are really in to Wow, I have no interest in playing that, the same can be said for any game out there. How are we to know what YOU will enjoy? You could listen to people who say it's great, you might not agree, you could listen to those that say it's awful, they might be people just spewing hate for it all because they didn't get their way, how do you know what to believe, you believe yourself when you find out for yourself if you think it's worth playing and maybe spending money on this game.

Edit: I mostly play solo, I like it, that's me though.

raids are only good if you have 5 other players you can find wich is only possible by joining an active raid clan, and the standards they set are insane going from your online time, clearances of the actual raid, gear score etcetc so its hard to get in to those since they expect you to allready have the exp of running the raids while none actually want ppl that are new to raiding. bungie should have made work of a raid finder a long time ago but it seems they dont care for that so they dont do it like loads of things they could do to improve this game but dont do. they still hang on to the things they did and still do when they started this game but forget that they need to innovate and evolve to make this game better. dont get me wrong, the content and the care that was putten in this game is very very nice, but the platform is still the same as when they started as is the way they do their server maintenance wich couuld be more fair for all regions if they rotate it timewise.

I only play games like this as Single Player.
It is fun and frustrating.
Raids and Dungeons are a different matter, you need more people to make it fast, fun and lucrative in the way of Loot.
Spending Hours to solo something just to get some Blue helmet sucks a lot.

Its not a single player game.

Can you solo a lot of the game? Yes.

Can you lone wolf even more of the game with match making? Yes.

Can you do everything in the game as a solo player with no friends but are willing to find other players to group up with to accomplish a goal? Yes, use either https://www.bungie.net/en/ClanV2/FireteamSearch or https://discord.com/invite/destiny2lfg

I started for a long time as a purely solo player and only used match making for a long time and then the quest for the exotic rocket launcher truth came out and I threw a fit about how anti-solo it was and eventually just bit the bullet and used the lfg discord for the first time and then once I did then pretty much the whole game opened up to me and I especially got a ton of use out of it when farming the huge specific objective grinds that was the 2019 solstice.

TLDR - use the d2 lfg discord to find other lone wolves and you can do pretty much anything in the game as a pack of lone wolves.
