I need the purchase system explained
ok so i played this a long time ago (mars/mercury dlc) on ps4. and i want to start fresh on PC for a friend of mine to co-op with bu the purchase options make NO sense to me. do i only have to buy the witch queen, which pack had mars and mercury? is there a comprehensive pack? What do I need to buy to get everything without double paying?

Someone said that expansions were retroactively removed and resold (that pisses me off, wth)

is story progression in the game still removed after 1 season locking you out of story arcs and lore?

Hi there

DLC is licensed by the platform, not by Bungie. When you purchase a DLC, you are purchasing the license to use that DLC on that platform. This is how DLC has worked for years.

Cross Save does not grant entitlements to DLC or transfer licenses for DLC to other platforms. If you wish to access the DLC on other platforms, you will need to purchase it on that platform.

https://www.bungie.net/7/en/CrossSave
Do my previous game purchases transfer across platforms?
Destiny 2 expansions (ex: Forsaken, Shadowkeep) do not transfer between platforms with Cross Save. Destiny 2 Season Passes!
(ex: Season of the Undying) do move between platforms on the characters they were redeemed on
.
The Curse of Osiris and Warmind DLC were vaulted and are no longer available. They are not available in any DLC package.

For more information on the Destiny Content Vault, including a very detailed blog article as to its creation, please review the below article.

The expansions you need are Beyond light and Witch queen. (Someone else correct me if im wrong) As of around season 9 or 10 they introduced season story arcs which finish respectively before the next season starts. So you won't be able to do any of the previous season story arcs in season 16. Now you have to get Beyond light and Witch queen.

Foresaken was sunset just recently. The two expansions you have to get (sadly) Beyond light just the normal one and witch queen (standard or deluxe). Witch queen you will have access to the new campaign (which is really good one of their best in both destiny 1 and 2) and some new activities, crafting system and new weapons/exotics. Now you still need to get the battle pass to do the "Seasonal story" which is $10. The striga SMG you can ONLY get with buying the deluxe edition of witchqueen (you get that smg after completing the campaign and 4 battle pass seasons). You could get standard and just wait until season 17 to get striga.

Oh almost forgot theres also the anniversary pack which you don't "need" to get but it's extremely helpful since some of the best weapons you can get with that dungeon that the anni pack comes with. (broken rocket launcher and one of the best hand cannons and a solid sniper and cosmetics). To be fair you can get by with some of the base game exotics. All previous exotics from previous expansions and what not are still in the game but you can get some through Xur and others through the monument thats on the tower by the vault. You need to have Beyond light for beyond light exotics. (I'm unsure which one exotics are for free to play someone else can jump in on that).

I'd highly recomend at least getting beyond light (you can even find it cheap off other sites and even witch queen). Beyond light gives you stasis subclass and some really good exotics like Dead man tale and hawkmoon.

After buying the above Beyond Light and Witch Queen DLCs, You can also do the Moon and Europa quests and missions specially for Stasis if you want to get this power upgraded to its fullest but I am not sure if you need to buy anything for that. If the DLC is available to buy it is an add-on to the game the other are marked as expired or cannot be purchased anymore.

I am in the same situation as you, I play everything on PS4 and now I am playing on a PC. I started with the free version of Destiny 2 and added the needed DLC available. Some that I paid for a year ago may be free today.
this sounds incredibly expensive and more complicated then it needed to be. exclusive gear and dungeons behind collector edition paywalls. story needs season passes and you get 1 opportunity to play it and then what, you youtube lore it? assuming you get this through steam thats 135USD + tax + battle pass every season + microtransaction store?

this sound incredibly unfriendly to users
i can't be the only person that finds this, a bit too much

Its really not that expensive or complicated, well I suppose first impression its expensive but the Witch Queen Deluxe edition is 80 us$ (tax is a you problem) for an entire year of regular content including the big Witch Queen expansion itself, 4 smaller scale seasons (they are not simply battle passes like other games), and 2 new dungeons on top of the new raid included with WQ and a new/returning raid later through out the year.

Shadowkeep, Beyond Light, and 30th Anniversary at this point are just there for extra content if you want more Destiny 2 and Forsaken is more of an exotic weapons and armor unlock and raid+dungeon but most will recommend Witch Queen Deluxe first.

And a few clarifications:

nothing is locked behind collector editions, currently there is one exotic smg that is with the deluxe edition but that will change and other than that everything else can be bought separately although you'll pay more than just getting the deluxe edition.

Everything can be played again on new/alternate characters and Witch Queen's campaign is replayable.

You could wait for sales to get it cheaper, the legacy collection frequently goes on sale and witch queen deluxe + anniversary bundle will almost certainly go on sale the next time everything else does otherwise you can check isthereanydeal.com

Cash shop is also completely irrelevant considering its all cosmetics only and you can earn bright dust to purchase a weekly assortment of new cosmetics.

You will not be the only person who feels this, there will be many. But they will have chosen not to buy into the game for that reason and therefore will probably not be here, in this forum, reading this thread.
Unless they are masochists. :lunar2020thinkingtiger:

OP, the game is a "choice", and a small investment. Destiny (2) happens right now in The Witch Queen. It's been like that since every expansion because of it's "Games as a service" character.

In fact, the latest DLC has lots of content and even more if you buy the Deluxe Edition of it. The other DLCs are also recommendable, but only secondary. Just wait for a sale, if you wanna play them all, and move backwards with the expansions. That's how the game works.

"Retroactively removed" is correct, but you should see about that for yourself at Destiny Content Vault[www.bungie.net]. I also miss some of those locations, but like I said, that's the character of the game. That's the only downer for me.

Lets say I buy the standard version of Witch Queen, can I upgrade later with a discounted price or do I have to pay full price again?

Hi there!

No, there is a deluxe edition upgrade option, which you can purchase through the Steam Store.

I agree, it's problematic and convoluted, but you don't have to get everything, nor should you. Witch Queen Deluxe gets you both this year's expansion and seasons, which is all you need tbh if you're gonna invest time into the game. I see the model as a subscription to an MMO instead of buying content, and it's a little more than half the cost of most of the big names i.e FFXIV, not including expansions.

skillups review, mainly the new/returning player warning, basically turned me off the game, spent the morning researching whats changed and im turned off. at the moment destiny 2 isnt geared toward bringing in new players, just keeping the die hards. https://youtu.be/8J6ZfWNwsVI?t=3280 link picks up at 54:40 the "New Light" experience. it's a shame i loved D1 to death, and RL made me take a huge break at D2. vaulting and limiting lore story is a HUGE turn off. No reason to drop back in for me. GLHF

i mean id rather pay like 200$ for 2000 hours then 60$ for 10-50 hours

It only seems expensive because you are looking to by the expansions all at once, but most buy them as they come out. my suggestion would be to buy the Witch Queen, then wait for sales to by the rest.
