Why does everyone hate Gambit?
Is it just a meme, or is it really just bad?
I just started playing it today and i'm definitely having more fun in it than the absolute sweatfest that is crucible.

Gambit runs the gamut (heh) in my experience; some matches are absolute trashfires, but others are like one I had yesterday where it was so close the enemy team killed their Primeval between the second we killed ours and the match ended; keep in mind that the enemy team's invader was Gjall-ing it up on our side and we managed to pull a Never Say Die medal victory.

ITS AN empty shell of what it once was. they completely ruined the mode. and peoples care when thjey completely nerfed the old set armor

Its more of a meme but Gambit has degraded from its formal glory
I still enjoy gambit, and like with anything theres good games, close games and bad games, Ive been trying to get Dredgen actually

Most people I know dont actually dislike it, its more of a neutral opinion

Though, this is also coming from someone who enjoyed the Reckoning, a different gambit activity that got removed that every also "hated" so... I guess take this with a grain of salt?

Because bungie dumped it in the game and hasn't bothered to balance it when the tons of cheese that have broken the mode. Season of the Drifter was the peak when we had gambit prime and the reckoning sets but since season of opulence it just went down hill.

It's legitimately a bad gamemode.

  • Loot drops sucks.
  • The Primeval may as well be as strong as the old Giant Blockers from Gambit Prime because a half decent team can melt it in as little as 10-20 seconds.
  • Blockers, on top of mote draining, in addition to invaders getting a portal upon summoning first, make it way too easy to steamroll the opposing team.
  • Ad strength between waves is inconsistent (or at least from my experience)
  • Invading in general is incredibly linear and predictable, making it incredibly easy to shut down despite being the biggest game changer in the mode.

It's great on conception, but it is just awful in execution.

If you have a thousand voices, a raid exotic that not everyone can get easily, then one person can melt the boss in less than a minute

That's just one cheese and at least that will be a seasonal thing because of an artifact mod, next season will be a new cheese and that's not even counting other cheese.

i used to love gambit and it was pretty much all i played for a time. i even played so much and so well that i was in the top 0.4% of players. but now i never play it and don't ever plan to because it seems like it's impossible to have a good game anymore. you either absolutely stomp the other team or they stomp you; one team killing their primeval when the other side has 20 motes isn't fun for anybody and that's all i ever see, or at least saw. don't think i've played gambit for about 4 months now and i'm not missing it
I feel the same way. Used to play the everloving ♥♥♥♥ out of Gambit, now I barely do at all.

I still run my Dredgen seal from time to time, even if I've never gilded it. Being an OG with everything in the old Collections badge is plenty good enough for me.

Plus, the Ancient Apocalypse armor sets are legitimately my favorite ones in the game, right next to the Gambit Prime ones.

Not bad just very boring once you've been playing for a while.

Gotta say, based on this I might not be the only one missing Gambit Prime. :o

I Never understood why they made the changes to gambit that they made, They just ended up downright butchering the game mode, there's almost no life to it anymore

The Gambit that is on the game now is a joke of what it used to be, when Forsaken launched and during that year before Season of opulence there were no invaders with annoying weapons that could kill you across the map without any effort like Truth, Eyes of Tomorrow, Xenophage etc. after Opulence weapons like truth became the go-to weapons to use as invaders or against them making the whole pvp side of the experience nothing more than a chore and annoyance, when a lobotomized monkey can wipe out a whole team by only adsing their weapon and pressing m1 there is no fun to be had for the other side. Gambit Prime imo was the best gambit there was, although annoying to deal with the waves of ads pre boss fight, the boss fight was the most balanced one, having a hard cap on how much damage they could deal to the boss, players would have to kill the taken wizzards to summon a well that allowed them to deal damage to the boss, for around 10-15 seconds, thus making the boss fights take around 2-3 phases making it fair for both teams and allowing the stomped team to have a chance to turn the match around. Now the boss is up and it dies within 10 seconds, or lobotomites spam invades with dumb weapons like Eyes of Tomorrow, not to mention they removed some of the maps that were good of the gamemode and kept most of the gambit prime maps without even updating the enemy waves patterns, literally the Titan and Nessus maps are harder than a Master NF because of the ammount of Shriekers Wizzards and Cabal turrets compared to the Edz and Mars maps
