Thorn for PVE, Ace for PVP is what I've been told.

I'd say ace, both ace and thorn are good but ace just has better stats. Thorn suffers from 150 rpm hc stats as a 140.

Both are great and have fun exotic perk for pvp or pve. Ace can buff damage with a reload after getting a kill along with exploding headshots and thorn does damage over time that can increase its damage and refill the magazine when collecting the orb from a kill.

I'd say that this is pretty much preference, although Ace is, in my opinion, a little better. Personally, I've used Thorn more than Ace, but they're both incredibly strong and have perks which increase damage after kills, allowing you to 2 head 1 body your enemies in pvp.
Ace of Spades: This gun feels very clean and is very straightforward. It has great range, increases reload on precision kills, gives you kill clip without the timer, makes things go boom, and even gives you radar in ads. You can not go wrong with this gun.
Thorn: Also a very strong hand cannon. It does suffer from 150 rpm stats, which means that it has slightly less range than a regular 140, but has higher handling. Thorn is great because of its exotic perk which poisons enemies. The poison deals small tick damage (does not improve ttk regularly*), allowing you to delay your opponent's regen and track them through walls for a short duration. On kills, enemies leave behind a green orb that flies to you when near, partially reloads Thorn, and buffs the poison effect. The buff, which lasts for around 5 seconds iirc, allows you to 2 head 1 body enemies. One downside of Thorn is that some people that I know have a hard time adjusting to its sights and recoil pattern, although this is something that I haven't really felt.

It may be worth mentioning that Thorn *may* get a catalyst at some point which *could* bump its range up a bit to make up for the 150 stats that others mentioned.

get 'em both. i primarily use thorn, at this point, on my warlock with necrotic grip for some ad clear fun and ace is good for me in both pvp and pve.

I use both. Personally, Ace is good for both PVP and PVE. PLus, PVE wise, Ace does more explosive dmg bc of memento mori :D

Great point.

@OP there is a warlock exotic called "Necrotic Grips" that has a unique interaction with Thorn that makes a poison kill explode into an aoe that spreads the poison in a small area.

The only correct answer is "it depends on what content you're doing and what your specific build is". Empowered Thorn has the potential to put out far more DPS than Ace and can be used with some exotics such as Necrotic Grips to synergize off one another, but Ace has more immediate "do damage to one target with one shot" damage making it a good all-rounder and more preferred for PvP situations.

Use them both, decide what you like the feel of more, and git gud with your choice.

The "correct" answer is the Ace of Spades ... because it was Cayde-6's gun.

Too bad the kiosk ones are replicas and people can't find the parts to to repair the original. :)
