They're pretty decent now, especially if they roll Vorpal, or Trench Barrel.
Sure, their reserves are a bit lacking, but finders, scavs if you can fit them, and reserves make up for it

The shotguns aren't the problem tbh, its the punishment of being close that is especially with the stomp mechanic, as long as that's a thing pellet shotguns will never be meta unless they make shotgun based artifact mods that get around it that and provide a buff/debuff for a season.

stomp mechanic is annoying af and just bungo telling you "you're going too fast!!" the fun is destroying hordes of enemies at once through multiple combinations like supers like throwing a literal ice tornado that freezes and slows targets and then throwing a shuriken to kill them while making orbs to progress your next super and not starting to nuke a boss with swords and getting kicked and needing to walk back to him before the damage phase is done

it still kinda feels like you're just a noob that started playing this game 2 days ago and not something viable and could just be stomp mechanics which imo should be deleted entirely because no one likes them and its really not needed and only makes things more annoying/difficult

Pellet shotguns got a pve buff in 3.4.0.

its not enough. 10% is almost nothing and other options are still 10 times better because its not enough or just not having enough places to use shotguns which is not the gun's fault

Like Mez mentioned, pellet shotguns on their own aren't bad, but higher end pve really discourages close ranged fighting thanks to ground stomps or super roided enemies firing steam engines from their guns.

A damage buff won't magically solve it unless they bordered on heavy weapon damage.

damage buffs wont make shotguns insane at every part of the game and i dont want them to be this strong

IDK, in PvE Shotguns are at the higher end of special weapon DPS. Snipers need TT or 4th Time to compete with them and Fusions are good due to Particle Deconstruction only, they won't be as good next season. In PvP Shotguns are #1.

The problem is encounter design and melee weapons (Glaive will be a special weapon next season), because when you are in melee range, why don't you just use a melee weapon?

I'd like it if they gave slug round shotguns the crosshair that the Wastelander has

Shotguns already include some of the most DPS heavy specials in the entire game for PvE, they're more than fine, you just need the right roll.

Shotguns can already 1-tap majority of the rank-and-file adds and most majors. I'm not sure what else you want from them. It's not like they'll be godly against any elites because at that point heavy weapons will have better dps.
