after a long time i was playing the lake of shadows strike and rediscovered this whole area within the EDZ. How is that not being used and is there anyway for me to explore it outside that one strike?

Unfortunately no, the mission that used it (it was one of the Curse of Osiris missions, possibly an adventure too) has been vaulted. It is blocked off normally if you try to approach from EDZ, I could have sworn it used to be blocked off during Lake of Shadows too, but I've ended up down there myself too so not sure.

thats ridiculous, i remember it from when CoO was around and its a huge play area thats just sitting there???

Too much work to retro fit into the game as an explore-able area and too much work to surgically remove from the game.
