New Player Lost
Hey All,

I played D2 at launch and loved up. Didn't want to keep paying DLC costs so stopped playing. Tried playing again 6 months ago and felt so lost because of vaulted content.

Has that new player experience changed or improved or is it still quite confusing when jumping in as a new player?

I'd prefer opinions of new players as i know long term players will understand all the systems so won't find it confusing so if you have started playing in the last few weeks or so what are your thoughts on the new player experience?

I began after the content vault. The "new player ezperience" teaches you how to do bounties, lost sectors, and to access ritual activities (pvp and easy pve content). Basic stuff. Enough to play the game.

If you want to go beyond that, you'll have to rely on third-party sources and services. Leveling? It leaves you in the dark. And dungeons, raids, high level content and lfg? Also in the dark. Get used to using third-party sources to learn about the game and apps to manage your stuff and find people to play with.

Well, I'm not a new player, but ... I'm not going to try to insist that it's all easy for a new player to understand either.

The on-boarding experience ... still leaves quite a bit to be desired. Mez Koo has a very nice guide that explains what's available for newer people and FTP players. And if you don't want to spend money, then you probably fall into that category.

Destiny 2 has a tendency to automatically drop you into introductory missions, both for the game, for the season, and for whatever expansion you might be playing. This can be very confusing.

As a new player (or as a "new" player) the first thing you want to is the quest New Light: A Guardian Rises. This quest is meant to be the introduction to the game, but can sometimes get lost in amongst the other things going on.

Each Season has a starting quest. This is meant as an introduction to the Season's story, and to also provide you with the Seasonal Artifact, which everyone needs. (And also to market the Season to those who might not have purchased it).

I could keep explaining, but ... no, you're not going to find it less confusing. That is, unfortunately, part of the game. There's a lot going on, and there's lots of menus to navigate and lots of places to go to get information and quests.

I think it's worth learning, but I agree it's confusing.

And a final note: Regarding the prices: Bungie puts out one expansion, a bit less often than once a year. For that, they charge about the price of a triple-A game. It comes to about $6 USD a month if you buy the Deluxe Edition of Witch Queen (which includes all of the Year Five content).

The older expansions are depreciated legacy content. They're available in the Legacy Edition, which goes on sale quite often. I wouldn't recommend buying the older stuff unless it was on sale.

The most recent expansion (and an active season pass) will always give you the most activity for your money. But do be aware: This is a live-service game, and and ARPG. Despite some MMO-like elements, it's not an MMORPG, nor is it a C-RPG. The main gameplay is shooting bad guys for cool loot.

I am also new and this game is the most confusing one that I have ever played. I played with it several years ago and gave up on it. Decided to try it again and it us just as confusing. Most of the you tubers have no clue on how to do a beginners guide because they have played to long and just think we already know the basic stuff. most of them can't talk either. Bungie's help page is not much help either I think they are lost also. Even the tower is a maze until I figured out that the map was upside down and backwards. Nakos write up here gave me more info then anybody right now on this forum, I will have to go read Mez Koo's guide.
To me just the key setting's for the game are so confusing and different then any FPS that I have ever played has been a pain, I am trying to figure out how I want to set the key bindings to.
Trying to do the Ada-1 mission and cannot figure it out...says i cannot buy anything.

This post covers it really.
And yeah, Mez Koo guide (and most of Mez Koo posts tbh) makes life a little easier for lost and bewildered new players.
